In honor of all the recent drink/drank/drunk threads, I present to you evidence that drinkers tend to outlive nondrinkers. New research has revealed that abstaining from alcohol increases one's risk of dying relative to both moderate and heavy drinkers!
So I say "drink to your health," and "a double bourbon and water, please. I've got stuff to live for."

But a new paper in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research suggests that - for reasons that aren't entirely clear - abstaining from alcohol does actually tend to increase one's risk of dying even when you exclude former drinkers. The most shocking part? Abstainers' mortality rates are higher than those of heavy drinkers. So I say "drink to your health," and "a double bourbon and water, please. I've got stuff to live for."
