moving and kids - Page 2

Perhaps you could spin in as a positive thing? Something like "I know you're going to miss your old school and friends, but we're only going to be a few minutes away from your old friends. Plus, you get the chance to make new friends and go to a new school."

Basically, instead of emphasizing what they're losing, emphasize what they have to gain.

How old are they? I am guessing they are pretty young to have that response with no obvious recourse...

If they were 14 or so and only 10 minutes away, you could try to keep them enrolled in their current district and ferry them to school (or to a bus stop across the border) until they can drive themselves to school...or if it is really short, throw them on a bicycle.

Much younger and (while I never moved after kindergarten) I would think they would be better off hating you for a while until they get used to it.

How will schools work...have your schools started yet (even if not...you probably aren't moving before labor day)? Will they have to switch in the middle of the year? If you don't switch them in the middle of the year, will you have to ferry them to the old district? Then they might want you to keep doing it forever...

Tell them to suck it up or they will grow up to be even bigger pussies than you are kunk.

Tell them they're moving to Armpit, OK and are never coming home again. Then tell them you're all only moving 10 minutes away. Relief settles in.

Tell them about the additional fun and space they'll have at the new house as well as the additional fun and resources they'll have at the new school. Of course kindly let them know it's not their decision.

I moved around a lot as a kid. It sucked, and I think I would have had a better time maturing into a stable adult if I had a settled upbringing. But you're only moving 10 minutes away, so that's really nothing. One of the school districts I was in would split the kids up at middle school or high school anyways, so you could stay in the same house but still end up in a different school from half your friends one year to the next. 10 minutes is nothing, I can fart for 10 minutes.

Lol white people are such pussies. My mother moved me and my siblings to another [much poorer] country and said it was for a short while. I was there for nearly 8 years

Why don't you just stay in your house but send your kids to boarding school?

No hassle in packing/moving, you get the house to yourself (same space as having a bigger house but with kids in it (plus easier to boan the wife or throw swinger parties)), and your kids still get psychologically screwed up from having to change schools. Plus their new boarding school will be as good or better than the other new school district.

This is a better plan. Take them on a 'vacation/scouting trip' as you look for a new place somewhere in the Rust Belt, then decide to only move 10 minutes away.

Boarding school is like 40k/yr per kid, plus they might not be old enough. Some schools will discount you if you have more than one kid going through the school, but that's some serious coin if you've got 3 kids like kunk does. The whole moving 10 minutes away crisis is pretty funny though. As a kid, I lost my best friend, whom I'd known my whole life up to that point, because my dad had an affair with his mother, my mother wouldn't let me see him again, and it was decided we would move to a different province. Err...

No offense, but your kids are way too fucking white if moving 10 minutes is traumatic for them. Slap them then tell them how good their lives are.

I didn't finish school in any age bracket in the same country. Somehow I think your children will survive a 10 minute difference.
