I love Chris' work, but I'll be the first to go out on a limb and say that the camel topcoat looks utterly ridiculous. I am sure that it would look great on someone, but I would not wear it under any circumstances. Just purely a matter of taste. Everything else I've seen looks fantastic.

It IS kind of bathrobesque.

Probably because of the lack of visible buttons?

Bathrobes should be so lucky.

Wha--? What's ridiculous about it?

Just not my look. Shoulders look big, armholes look big, fit is very drapey, huge belt across the front (the loose ends of which hang to the bottom of the coat), no visible buttons.

Look - construction-wise, I'm sure it's immaculate. But everyone praises this coat like it's the fucking holy grial when it's posted, but nobody has purchased or commissioned a coat even close to this one (or - at least - nobody has posted a pic of one upon completion.)

It's just not my style. I hope I've made it clear that I have 100 pct respect for Chris and his craft - I just wouldn't wear this coat. Roughly 70-80 pct of the stuff I see posted here, I wouldn't wear. Can't understand why this is so shocking.

I really don't know how to digest this. But I will ask at least this: how the heck can you tell how high the armholes are, and where is the drape? It's a damned coat. It needs to fit over things. Anyway, I know you say you don't pick up your cues from fashion magazines, but it's hard to fathom where you pick them up otherwise.

You don't have to like everything you see, but to say this coat is so ridiculous as to be unwearable while gushing praise for Sciamat's Effeminate Pirate aesthetic makes it hard to stomach your judgment of what's ridiculous.

I would wear that polo, and if I did, it would rock without apology. It's one of the classic configurations for one. dopey, afaik, was toying with getting a tie front polo made. - B

Virtually every time I post now, you yell back "GQ! Esquire! Sciamat!" Really? You're a spunky little smurf, I'll give you that. But in all honesty, you needn't feign such disgust and outrage every time I offer a critique of a garment. You reserve the same sort of vitriol for nobody else, from what I can discern - and with respect to the men you have a crush on, like vox, virtually nothing they say will elicit even the slightest disagreement from you - in fact, you trip over yourself to "+1" them. Sad, really.

Foo spars with half the board. No need to think you're special.

Oh, and count me as another fan of the coat.

Oh I certainly don't think I'm special. But I offered a reasoned critique. Someone else compared the coat to a bathrobe, and Foofy is silent...

I'm not disgusted by you, but I'm also not feigning my frustration. You launch criticisms that don't appear to have any objective basis, throwing around terms like "shoulder seam" and "drape" without knowing what they mean, and sending up rules of fit that are merely figments of your imagination. Meanwhile you attach adjectives like "sexy" and "fantastic" to something like a lapel without being able to explain what actually makes it special to you. Have you considered that I agree with Vox a lot more than I agree with you simply because Vox is right a lot more than you are?
