New Interpol album - Page 2

Just downloaded the album. Gonna see what's good. Just gave it a quick listen... Didn't really like "Lights" but I really liked "Summer Well." Nothing really great.

I agree that's a great song.

David Pajo?? Wow, can't wait to see them live then.

Just listened to a few tracks from the myspace page, and none seemed to be unforgettable, perhaps it'll get better on the long run, after some listenings?

I'm loving this record, but it did take a few listens to get used to it. It's very cold and dark, even by Interpol standards. Anyone who liked Lighthouse and Wrecking Ball from OLTA should love the whole second half of the new record. "All of the Ways" is the real standout, IMO.

And no, the new record doesn't sound like TOTBL or Antics.

Starting to like it, too, after a weekend of listening. And I agree on it being much darker than the previous ones, were such tones maybe influenced by Carlos Dengler's departure?

I think every new Interpol record is going to be saddled with comparisons to TOBL. It's like how every KISS record is the new Destroyer. One way that it does return to the TOBL vibe, though, is that Carlos D's bass is up a little further in the mix and his parts are a little funkier than on OLTA.

I have to say, though, that I'm one of the few Interpol fans who think that OLTA is a great record. Pioneer to the Falls, Pace is the Trick, and Lighthouse are at least as good as the best stuff on TOBL, in my opinion.

Thanks you for the post.

As much as I want to like this album, it's really really fucking boring. After 3 listens, nothing's really stood out. And this is from someone who loved the last one.

I changed my mind on Lights.

I recently checked my most-played list on iTunes. It turns out I've listened to Lights more than twice as many times as the second place song! I couldn't believe it.

I've been listening to the new record regularly since it came out. I typically get enthusiastic about new records, but then I lose interest after a month or so. That's not happening with this one at all. This is a really great record, IMO.

Yeah, I agree. The record is so exciting that listening to the whole thing can really leave you tuckered out.
