Yes it may be altered. This is what my tailor told me, based on how the knit were made they can alter it.
If the sleeves and shoulders are "linked" together, they can do it from shoulder. Same method as altering a functional cuff wool suit.
Alternatively, they can do it from the sleeve directly, depends on how it was finished. I have a sweater was being done by this way.

Thanks, I called my tailor and he said basically the same thing. The BBS knit in question was already sold at that point, though.

I think that is from last fall, but they are an old Irish company and do failry similar things every season. Barney's carries them, and a bunch of the European outdoorsy places (I wanna say Oi Polloi? norsestore, grundtner maybe?) carry. Google away bra.
