so me and the fiance are walking around Old Town Pasadena today and we walk by a storefront that has a couple big signs saying "Rising Sun Denim & Co Tailors Coming Soon - Premium Denim - Men & Women"......hmmm now this is interesting. I wonder if it is some brand called "rising sun" or if it's a reference to carrying cool esoteric Japanese brands a la B.I.G.????? Will they chainstitch new hem lengths in-house?????

It's on Fair Oaks about half block south of Green St. Am curious to see what this place is.

South of Green? Odd place to stick a store, odder still it's not a chain or hardly mentioned online: http://www.kitmeout.com/fashion/rising_sun.php The name and the fact it has "tailors" in the title has me really curious. Good catch there, Get Smart.

interesting, don't know if it's the same brand as the store logo was completely different.....a very graphic minimalist eagle head over what looks like an old (Union Standard?) sewing machine. And the text wasnt written in that ***-Engrish-Chinese-Menu font from your link

we'll see what it ends up becoming...there wasnt an opening date but I'd guess in the near future

I'll post back when they're open since we eat in that area like every weekend.

Man I miss the food around there. Pizza at Manny's, Thai at Saladang Song, or Argentine at Gaucho. Just a few more days till beer at Lucky's.

BTW, Get Smart, if you're into wines there's a secret little place of mine called The Nose. Small hole-in-the-wall wine bar in the arcade across the street from Laemmle's playhouse that's always been clutch with the ladies.

Man, I don't think I've ever been there, just passed by it. Best curry I've had in Pasadena is the coconut milk curry at the malaysian place on green just east of De Lacey and the green curry at saladang's on fair oaks. But now you've given me a challenge...

If you want good curry, don't go to Hurry Curry. I mean, just take a minute to think about the name. It's like a fast food cheap version of Curry House.

There's nothing better than pigging out at Soup Plantation after a couple of hours digging through tee's and jeans at Rose Bowl. If anyones into ribs there's a great but really old fashioned BBQ joint on Fair Oaks a couple of blocks south of the 110. The Prime Ribs really good at Houstons also.

On a side note I was in Pasadena this past weekend aswell, it looks like a rennaisance is in place with the impending opening of H & M and the colossal and totally tasteless Forever 21 in the old Saks building. Maybe we'll get a couple of better boutiques tagging onto to this retail upturn.

P.S. I'll be showing my new collection at Magic next week called Rokara. We're already placed at Villians, AB Fits, Fred Segal and Blue Bee for Holiday. Give me a shout if you come by, I'll welcome the feedback.

Never really liked the ribs at that place. Houstons, perhaps a bit upscale and a touch overpriced, blows them away any day of the week. Where's Magic? Did you see any sign as to when exactly H&M is opening?

The Malaysian place on Green is called Kuala Lampur. Used to be a regular place (about once every two weeks) for me. The coffee drink there is really pretty decent as well.

One place you've all gotta go for a coffee and an awesome fig custard tart, (which must be tried if you've never gone, or blueberry brioche, which used to be breakfast 3 days a week for me) is Europane, on Colorado about three blocks east of Lake.. If the owner (Sumi) is in, tell her that Fok and Jen say hi.

RyeGB, I'll look out for your collection, either at Villains when I go to SF in December, or at Blue Bee. Don't think I'll be back in LA before then.

As for the retail scene in Pasadena, it's pretty dead, although there is a decent streetwear place (lots of Stussy) called Greyone on Walnut (iirc).

I didn't see any stated opening for H & M I'm afraid. As for Magic it takes place in Vegas 28-30 of August.

LA Guy. Are you located in the North East?, I would welcome your feedback on the line when it hits the stores.

That's Gus' BBQ on Fair Oaks....and I'm not a fan either unfortunately. Now Houston's makes a GREAT babyback rib, albeit a bit pricier than, say, Lucille's, who currently makes my go-to babybacks

Rye, what's your line about? Tshirts & streetwear?
