King Taco? Good and simple. El Atacor is good, too. Oh, Mexican food interpreted by the Swiss didn't turn out to be that bad although the tortillas were a little off.

I tried to the Chicken Caesar today at lunch and it was fantastic!! I will now have to check out the other places on this list. But I will definately be back to Lovebirds!

-Thanks!

its getting boring lurking, so i figured what better time for a first post than a discussion about food in the san gabriel/pasadena area? (there's nothing good where i live, san marino, hah) ajisen ramen on valley blvd has OKAY ramen but it is far from authentic japanese ramen. and yes, it is indeed owned/run by chinese. it's the first ramen restaurant i went to on a constant basis which began my addiction so it holds a special place in my heart . i like their kani and fish roe salad but maybe i'm just weird. further east on valley blvd is shinsengumi ramen, which, in my opinion, has the most authentic/best ramen out of any ramen restaurant i've visited in socal. i like theirs much more than orochon/kouraku in jtown. they give you options as to noodle hardness/thickness of soup base/amount of oil. even further east is taco king, which i think is pretty good/cheap mexican food. however i haven't been to many mexican restaurants so i guess my opinion isn't worth much. where is king taco in pasadena? PS: Get Smart thanks for the tip about kouraku being open so late at night. i had no idea and will definitely keep that in mind in the future.

Hey, would I lie to SF'ers? I hope you went the extra mile and added on cheese and avocado. But going back to the ORIGINAL topic (yes, yes, I know), where the hell is rising sun again? I drove by last night and didn't see anything. Is it on the west side of Fair Oaks GetSmart? I'd like to say while it's good to be back, 1:30 last call in Pas is a joke. At least I got a few rounds in @ Lucky's which played nothing but old smiths and radiohead.

It's on the west side of Fair Oaks, 1 block south of Green. It's the corner space of Fair Oaks and some small side st i dont know the name of.

You ever go to the Colorado Bar? the best dive bar in town, where the house red wine is served from a jug that looks like it's over a gallon

Not totally true. There's an Italian place on Mission in San Marino over by where the shops are. It's food, but to be honest, I've had better. Found out after I got the bill that it's just an extention of a place on Raymond near Lucky's. There's also a pizza place in SM somewhere that was fairly good but i couldn't tell you where it is. Found it on citysearch.

King Taco's up on Arroyo Pkwy, one block north of Colorado on the west side of the street. WOULD have eaten there last night but the bastards close earlier on weekdays. The real King Taco would roll in his grave if he knew they EVER closed.

As I was telling Get Smart, my favorite quick mexican food place is Doña Rosa on Arroyo, too. El Portal isn't bad, either, as the food is fairly reasonable and the place usually has live entertainment (mariachis, classical guitarist, etc). I'd recommend not getting a combination plate but something a bit more adventurous. A few bucks more and it'll make a huge difference. El Portal is in the arcade across the street from Laemmle's Playhouse/Vroman's on Colorado. There's parking in the lot behind it on Green. Lastly, there's a place on Pasadena Ave a few blocks south of Colorado. Can't really comment too much on it other than happy hour has cheap margaritas and several free (yes, free) appetizers. I said free, not great.

Dive bar in Pasadena? Give me the details, please. Never been there. Yeah, I figured it was over in that new complex but was focusing more on the hotel side of the street. I'll be back up there today/tomorrow and take a better look.

HAHAHAH....oh, I KNOW IT, just didn't remember the name. A buddy of mine is a G-Center manager and took me over there once to get drunk with all the other center people. Funny, when you said Pasadena, I didn't consider THAT part of Pasadena.

Good times.

King Taco gets my vote but what the heck are they doing in Old Pas? Talk about out of place. Go to the East LA location for some good fun,

Sounds like you've eaten at Tacos Del Amigo in Omotesando/Harajuku.

La Jolla in Hiroo wasn't too bad, at least in the ancient Bubble years.
