i went by the fountain valley joint last week because i havent gone there in so long, but line up out the door was ridiculous. so went to ebisu instead. santoka is still my fav, if you can get over eating in a supermarket.

I assuming that these places you guys speak of all use real fish stock?
I plan to check them out.

Why would they use fish stock?

+1 That place is awesome if you can deal with the lines. edit: whoops, I was thinking of daikokuya. Haven't been to kouraku.

It gets really crowded there? I think every time I've been we were seated immediately. Weekends late at night though. Is that the only late night spot in little tokyo? I remember going twice in one night once, haha.

Pork (bone) stock, iirc.

Speaking of ramen (and soup), I heard that there is this spot in Osaka that uses cat bones as stock in their soup, and it is supposed to be excellent. I don't know about you, but that just doesn't appeal to me.

+1 on Santoka at Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa, and I've had Shinsengumi in FV too which is good but not quite this good. Also, the density of awesome places to eat in LA is offset by Orange County having Chick-Fil-A.

Are you kidding there isn't shit to eat in oc compared to LA.

Btw somebody school me on ramen at santoka, what options/choices are there and what is optimal me and kelvin have a lunch date coming up I want to be prepared so I can impress him.

^^^ Misread? Salt or miso, with the salmon roe rice. I think it might be set C? Can't remember.

I wouldn't ride the "OC is better than LA for having Chick-Fil-A" train if I were you; not only does LAC have them (Redondo, Torrance) but the Inland Empire was one of the first to get one.
