+1 great place. Mrs Smart loves it there and is always disappointed if we go to a different ramen joint because it's never "as good as Shinsengumi"

Agreed. I'm at the SGV location all the time. $1 for extra noodles? C'mon! Can't beat that. The Costa Mesa location has the yakatori side if you are feeling frisky.

now you're sounding like me

I've heard really good things about Smitty's Grill on Lake Ave. It's owned by the fellas that run Arroyo Chophouse and Parkway Grill and is supposedly really good American comfort food. I've only driven by it 1000000x but have yet to try it out, which will happen soon.

Hey, when you're not too busy stuffing your facehole with Porto's would you mind trying that new place on Mission just a block or two east of Buster's on the same side of the street? I don't even know the name of the place but it seems packed on the weekends.

That's Daikokuya, which apparently is no good (according to previous posts). The Little Tokyo location is good though. Mentatsu ramen is pretty good in costa mesa, and serves up a delicious bowl of mabo ramen.
