Dropping ISP after buying smartphone? - Page 2

I would do this if I didn't have skype and vonage lines. I have a Sprint EVO 4G...don't have 4G in LA yet but in Vegas I clocked 10.5Mbps download, 1.05 up. Which is pretty comparable to a good ISP. it tethers but i haven't tried it yet.

What's with all you people who think 43 is expensive? Where do you live?

I pay 30 right now...but its a promo deal/my building maintenance guy knows a guy...
I let him set me up with the slow speed initially (he wasn't saying how fast just that it was fast). I called and switched it to the faster tier after checking it for 10 minutes.

My service should be 50-60 a month and would be totally worth it...I personally do have use for a faster connection but even if I didn't, the slow one would be hell. I sublet an apartment for 4 months last year with the bottom tier AT&T (which was about where the low tier of my cable was) and it was hell. Like...bigger youtube videos have trouble streaming hell--it is the god damned future, don't hold yourself back!

I pay $30 for cable and internet and phone data. In Manhattan.

$30 for internet
Company pays iphone data.
$0 for cable (use a slingbox connected to my parents' house, so I get their channels for free on my laptop/iphone).

Yes, I miss out on HD goodness when I am at home, but I was never a snob about things like that.

I live in Brooklyn, NY and have a $20 plan from verizon and it is great. No issues. Good speed. I am not watching or d-loading movies(that is what Netflix and cable is for.)

But now you have netflix streaming!

Is that the 768kbps-1mbps DSL? I don't think I could tolerate it after being used to more speed.

I pay an extra $10 a month to go more than 10x faster. Occasionally my connection flakes out and goes at what might be 1.5-2x as fast and I get really annoyed.

Totally worth giving the cable company a call and getting in on a promo price. If you negotiate right, you can probably get a full year at the promo price...from there you either switch ISPs (to a promo with somebody else or back to your slowness) or you threaten to switch and they give you the same price

Nah....I don't watch Netflix moves streaming. I wait for the DVD. I watch movies when I have NADA to do so no need to ever view streaming...\\
