I'm definitely not suited for this, but I apologize on behalf of all the shitty servers that have ever served you shittily and not apologized. But you can't make broad generalizations about all servers based on the bad service of a few. I think instead of us telling you things, you should try waitressing at a local restaurant for a little while. I've tried doing what you mentioned about the chairs and writing down orders for each chair when i first started, but you have to rewrite the orders and when you have 8 tables you're juggling at a time with customizations for every order you don't have time. People ask to be skipped. At least at my place sushi orders go on bottom, kitchen orders on top and people order sometimes from both. It's a huge hassle coming up with seat placements for every table. You simply don't have the luxury of time Chefs yell at you if the food is getting cold. Managers yell at you if they think people are waiting for orders. Customers yell at you if you haven't done whatever small request they asked for. And you can't do all three at the same time. Thus some of the smaller requests get pushed back, sometimes out of mind. Writing shit takes time and you don't have time. You keep saying servers aren't perfect human beings and then you go on say why they should be perfect. However, I do feel guilty when I do all of the things you mentioned. I do my best to apologize and redeem myself. I used to be a little whiny bitch like you about serving. Service had to be perfect or you got a ding on your tip. Being Asian and not having grown up in a tip culture, I used to just round up a little bit from the bill to make a pretty number (generally around 10%) instead of at least giving 15%. God, I was a little bitch. and still kinda am, but hopefully less so See, in other countries waiters have a salary. In our great country waiters depend on charity because restaurants are legally allowed to pay 65% of minimum wage because of this tip culture. You try working for charity. If some bitchass customer leaves no tip or less than 10% tip, you can't complain when they've already left. You have no idea how degrading it might be for the waiter who does come run after you. You think they sleep well at night? They probably have some underfed kid in their house who depends on their sole parent making a living off fucking charity I fucking hate Asian customers and I'm Asian. Black people and Latinos maybe half as much. You can be nice to them as much as you want, all smiles and polite jokes and water refills and constant checking ups and they leave 5% tip. random waiting thoughts. Anyways, next time you get bad service just take a look around you. See how many waiters there are. And then see how many tables there are.
