I'm an outgoing introvert

Thread Starter
If you knew me well, you'd know that i am outgoing, sarcastic, funny, and the life of the party...but only around my friends.

I am really shy around new people and have a difficult time approaching strangers; and if i'm introduced to a stranger my conversations are usually flat and boring. Its only when I get to know them well, that my true personality comes out.

I'm about to move to NYC, and want to take advantage of as many networking opportunities as possible for work & just to meet new people. Any advice to help me overcome this nonsense?

Me too; but I think that just means we're introverts.

It's when you realize that strangers want to meet you - then you will have no problem meeting them. When you meet someone new and there is an unwelcome pause in conversation, ask them something. It doesn't matter what you ask them as long as your new friend can talk about him- or herself.

I am not sure about INTJ but INTPs are said to be introverted but "talkative and gregarious" around friends. When I first took the test and got INTP...it made perfect sense.

My friends never believe when I say that I am shy because they don't really remember meeting me (or we met in situations where its hard to be shy...like 1st year of college in-dorm orientation). Around them I easily talk too much but around strangers its the other way around.

I can chat people up very well, but it's all a pose. I'm also INTJ. I find talking to a lot of people for a long time very exhausting.

I'm also INTJ and find long conversation with someone or time spent with people to be extremely exhausting. I like and must have time alone.

Sometimes I get annoyed with you, but then I realize your presence is well needed here. Keep up the good work Metro.
