If you plead "not guilty" and go to court, your disposition will depend on several factors:
A) Your driving history for the last 18 months;
B) The speed you were cited for;
C) Whether you were polite to the officer. If you were issued a "supporting depostion" with the ticket it will contain any statements you made to the officer at the scene. If you were not issued a sdep - request one. The case can be dismissed if it is not provided within 30 days.
D) Court location. Each court/judge has its own peculiarities.
This said - know the NY DMV point system. If you get 6 or more points within an 18 month period, you will also be subjected to the Driver Assessment Fee in addition to any court fine. At six points it is $100/yr for 3 years.
Many speeding tickets will be reduced to an 1110(a), failure to obey a traffic control device, which carries 2 points.
Good luck - if you go to court, dress well.
