Labor Day Weekend in Louisville

GF and I were originally supposed to spend Labor Day weekend in Louisville for a wedding. Staying at the Galt House downtown. Now I'm going solo (the odds of finding a short notice date are slim) and I'm not willing to eat the cost of moving flights, shortening time there, etc.

I've never been to Louisville. Any good ways to kill time? Is there good hiking around there?

Only an hour or so from there to most of the bourbon distilleries of note, if you like bourbon.

Excellent! Hadn't thought of that. Thank you very much.

My pleasure. Wife and I drove through last month on our way to Western NC (speaking of good hiking...) and timing didn't work out to stop anywhere If you hit up a distillery or two, I'd love to hear which ones you enjoy.

Already mapped out Maker's Mark in Loretto. Will hit it on the way there. Will make a hell of a wedding gift.

we just went through, loved it. there is a museum called the frazier history museum, great little botique museum of military history, I could have spent a day there. also, the luiseville slugger museum was cool. about an hour west is owensboro ky, which is the barbeque capital of kentucky. also, in town is a place called the homemade icecream and pie shop - they have 4 or 5 branches, highly recomended. and, of course, the distilliries.

Bardstown is pretty nice -- there's a Barton's distillery there. I have camped there a few times and toured the distillery.

If you are going to visit any bourbon distilleries, I recommend Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, KY. Probably a little less than an hour outside of Louisville. Good tour of how bourbon is made, history of bourbon, plus a tasting at the end.
