My girlfriend is trying to convince me ill look much better with my haircut really short (i think like a #1 on the sides and #3/4 on top), im not really sure. what do you think would look best?

How short would look okay?

have the sides clipped by maybe 1/4" and lose the sideburns

#1 all around. Do it:

i'd say cut it all off like to the skin

having a #1 all around is amazingly easy to take care of, as long as you don't start to look cancer-iffic.

Probably easiest to go to barber and ask for #3 all around, and if it looks alright, ask to go to #2 or even #1.

You're balding. You almost have a buzz cut now. I don't mean to be harsh, but you don't have enough hair to go for #3 or #4 on top. So yeah, go #2 or #1 all around.

Yes, buzz it with a #1 all around

Buzz it. But I'd leave the top ever-so-slightly longer than the sides. I'd also shorten the sideburns as they make your face look narrower and longer.

#1 all around....will help with the thinning u have going on. Plus, as others said, so easy to maintain.

This is good advice. Except instead of going to a barber, just buy clippers and do it yourself - a set of clippers is about 2 or 3 trips to the barber.

I considered doing this, but I find that it takes some skills (that I don't have) to clean the sides and edges.

Takes a lot of patience to trim the back of your neck just right. It's easier to get a friend to do that part.

Thats why I used to use a 0 when I shaved my head instead of a 1. Just shave everything, no need to clean up the sides and edges. I could have asked my roommate to do it but I was too lazy.
