on your iPhone, no doubt.

I've read about this being a huge problem in Japan. One blog I would read simply said "everyone is crowded together, and everyone is lonely."

I was an early subscriber of the New York Social Diary, and although I'm no where near the level of wealth those people possess, I find their lives empty and boring. The people featured in the "House" section all own animals, most live alone or with a gay lover, and many hang Sotheby's paintings of dead aristocrats unrelated to them.

Friendship is so much more important than many things we strive to optimize in our lives, and that include money and women. I would be so damn depressed without my buddies dropping by every now and then for a chat. This is the reason I don't use facebook or tweeters. The people who prefer these modes of communication will soon drop out of your life, to be seen in the corner of a screen, barely noticed until they update their avatar pic.

Real friends are rare but I'm not sure how I could do without the ones that I have.

I have a facebook.

Facebook is fine, provided you actually reach out to those people once in a while.

Speaking of which, I ought to drag Justin out to the firing range or brewhall or some such, once he adjusts to the new gig.

A great article that I was able to relate to.

I've been meaning to pick this up for a while -- perhaps will go today:

I think we Americans are naturally solitary people. Remember D.H. Lawrence's characterization of the American as "hard, stoic, isolate--a killer"? Or for that matter the lines from that great patriotic anthem of early America, "The Hunters of Kentucky":

We are a hardy free-born race,
each man to fear a stranger,
whate'er the game we join the chase
depising toil and danger.

I'm up for that. And I'm sure Southern Nupe will be too - we're both fans of beer and firearms (though not in that order).

[quote=JustinW;3517557]we're both fans of beer and firearms (though not in that order). Spoken like a True American. No matter how vast and solitary it may get at times, take solace brother there will always be titties and beer to go with our guns. A trifecta deserving of a quad yeah...
