Why are some people really into politics?

I wonder why some people are really into politics while others don't really get too riled up about it. Assuming equal intelligence, what kind of personalities do you think obsess over politics and what kind do you think ignore it for the most part? Feel free to use StyleForum as a microcosm for the discussion's purposes.

I really dislike politics, and my personality is amazing.

I've wondered the same thing. I'm not really sure why I obsess over politics. Part of it could be my insatiable thirst for power.

I think interest in politics is inversely proportional to intelligence.

They're not really interested in anything else outside of the issue being raised.

I have no idea what thats about. Besides religion, theres nothing I find more boring than politics.

Are you talking about interest in ideology and political philosophy, interest in electoral/partisan politics or in another form of political interest?

In my experience, the first group are generally in it for the same reason anyone else studies the social sciences - they found an idea or issue that appeals to them and they want to explore it to the full extent.

The latter group is made up almost entirely of terrible human beings who desire power and prestige for themselves and are willing to lick the taint of those who already have power in order to obtain it.

I've never met a person who was really political, regardless of their place in the spectrum, that I liked to hang out with. Now that I think about it, most of my close friends are either artisans, engineers/mechanics...basically people who actually make things. I guess that makes sense.

I am very interested in, and read for pleasure in the field of, foreign policy. Generally speaking, I couldn't give less of a shit about "politics" as the term is most commonly understood and talked about here.

Politics effects people's lives. It's pretty fucking important. But I stopped paying attention when I realized the guvment was gonna fuck me over no matter how many angry posts I made on an internet forum.
