HOme Theater equipment question

So I am looking at doing up a home theater in my new house, I have a nice enough Panasonic system, but my question is this: I had a guy come and give me as quote. In his quote he included this:
http://www.hometoys.com/news_detail.php?id=16389479

Looks totally unnecessary to me. Any idea why I would need this? I have Dish network, and where I live now, in an apartment, we have it running into the cable box, and the sound running from the cable box into the Panasonic system and it sounds great. Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like $400 for minimal improvement. I am not a big audiofile and have much greater priorities than my home theater system.

A complete waste of money. What the hell did he tell you that you needed it for?

don't do it. electronic salespeople are like used car salespeople. 1) didn't really read in details, but signal degradation is not as issue unless it's over like 100ft. i assume your box is less than 10 feet away from your set. 2) if that boxes only "improves" 1080p, which it probably doesn't anyways, and you use the TV for non blue-ray dvds, it won't help at all. only blu-ray feeds 1080p. cable/satellite tv feeds 1080i.

Even with Blu-Ray, unless he's watching a 65"+ screen from 30ft away I seriously doubt that the improvement will be of any benefit

That product only looks useful if you have a whole-house system. And if you're going that way, at least use a product that works well: Netstreams
