Palo Alto is the Nicest Town in America - Page 3

One of my first jobs was working on University Ave at a record store called CD Land. Then Borders moved in across the street and put us out of business in 12 months.

I found PA fairly boring. Santa Cruz, for example, is much more interesting. PA may be the quaintest town in America (if you like Taco Bell).

PA itself is kinda commie, run-down w/potholes, smelly w/homeless, too close to crime of 101 corridor (similar to E Atherton).....lots of wealthy Prius-driving, G550-flying eco-commies like the google founders

But PA region arguably has more IQ and money than any region on planet, on an absolute or per capita basis; only rival: the few 1000 hedge fund kings and princes of Midtown Manhattan (no one Downtown at GS is even a billionaire)

Capitalists who despise PA's commie ethos tend to live in Woodside and work in Menlo or other SV suburbs (and drive self to office via some new AMG, unlike the crappy S550s w/fat drivers in polyester suits of Midtown)....SF is a distant, yuppie suburb of SV, largely for non-engineers

And from a style perspective, tech founders/execs and VCs tend to dress much like many hedge fund guys....all gave up ties and suits ages ago...the suit/tie/lace-up shoes clown outfit marks one as a lowly-paid, Luddite salesguy of some kind who can only afford sweaty, smelly mass transit on ground and in air, despite wearing "formal" business attire to a cube in a skyscraper in some "formal" CBD

Was true, but they stopped handing out the stickers to allow this this since there are too many hybrids now.

I wonder if those cars with the stickers are grandfathered in, therefore a used Prius with a sticker sells more than a used one without. Nah.
