J/C. It's so perfect it's like it's not real. Stanford is a still a Taco Bell writ large but PA is just perfect.

Sure it looks like a Taco Bell, but Stanford has to be the most pleasant place on earth.

Walking from the Amtrak in PA over to East PA is quite the experience. Gazillion dollar mansions until you approach this tiny footbridge, then BAM! in one of the biggest murder capitals of the world.

I said East Palo Alto, you know it used to have the highest murder rate in the country per capita right? No doubt the places you mentioned are Westside of the Eastside of the Starboard side though.

What about Bellevue, WA?

I find it to be full of pretentious pricks.

How long has it been since East PA was truly rough? I lived there in 1989 when I was a student and it was kinda sketchy then but not really. By now it must be completely gentrified.

Last time I made the walk was 10 years ago. It was just really eerie how you could tell where the city lines met. I think the mid 90s is when it had the highest murder rates per capita.

I would assume it got much better when houses were overpriced and now is probably on course to one day reclaim its former title. I really have no idea though.

Depends on how far off the main streets you go. It's pretty gentrified along the mains, but still a bit sketchy past. Not as bad as when it was the homicide center. It helped they took out the liquor alley and put up the Four Seasons... and the massive Ikea across the freeway.
