Will my shoes stretch?

I purchased a wonderful pair of Damir Doma shoes made of hand stained horse leather (not cordovan, I don't think). They came today and, for a fashion brand, they are of amazing build quality and material (very thick leather, nice stitching, stiff sole). I guess for an MSRP north of $1,000 they should be nice. Sadly, they're about a .5 size small length-wise. I gave them to my cobbler who pretty much said it's a $10 gamble to see if they stretch or not. We'll know by next Thursday. But for now... a poll.

Hmmm, I thought so too but I've read of length stretching as well. A few threads over at Andyland talk about it.

What I've done with stretching length before is to first create a tight wad of newspaper around 1 inch by a half inch. Then place that wad at the tips of the tightest shoe trees you have and tape them down with duct tape. Aggressively insert shoe trees into shoes and let them sit a few weeks. It seems to raise the edge of the toe box a bit creating around .25 in size greater length.

And yes, I'm a bit crazy.

It would work if you weren't such an asshole. Shoes never stretch lengthwise for snarky pricks.

If the shoes are 1/2 size too small, the stretching will not make them the correct size. I tried this once with a pair...didn't work.

Sometimes width wise they will stretch a bit but lenght wise no, they will not stretch.

Length is a bit dodgy.

I gave a pair of Canali wholecuts to my cobbler with the instructions to stretch them as much as he could.

The Salvation Army ended up with a sweet pair of unworn antiqued Canali shoes that some lucky fool picked up for a song.

<sigh>

$600 pissed down the drain.

If the stretching works, I will congratulate you. If it doesn't, my commiserations. Been there, done that.

I fear the experiment will not satisfy but I wish you success.

PS-
I just can't deal with this cow avatar. Please bring back Javier.

Those "˜lengthwise' stretchers work by pushing out the heel:

Men' shoes have usually pretty stiff heal counters built-in, so any stretching is likely to occur at the top-line, not where the heel is joined to the insole. The length of a shoe is determined by the length of the last, which in turn determines the length of the insole. However much you stretch, the insole is not likely to lengthen.

If heel counter and toe puff are pretty soft, you might get the top edge, heel and tip, pushed out somewhat.
