How big will this dog get, approximately? It's a female.

Not sure how big it will get but we had a Shiba and it was the worse dog I ever had. Good luck if you get this dog.

What was so bad about it?

HE attacked a neighbors kid and we had to have him put down. Pretty high strung dog. Doesn't mean they all are but this one was. Don't see too many of them so who knows. Have a soft coated wheaton terrier now and he's awesome.

Could be the size of either parent or anywhere in between.

Wow, sad to hear about the above Shiba. I see them all over Japan and I've never seen a bad-tempered one. They tend to be regarded as excellent dogs from what I've heard. I've always wanted one myself.

I have heard that a lot of the early Shiba imports were pretty sharp and feral in temperament, but that American breeders have milded down the temperament a lot, as show breeding tends to do. I've never been chummy with a Shiba, but I've never seen one act aggressively toward me or any of my dogs in chance encounters.

Sibes are generally friendly and not human-aggressive. This cross might be a perfectly okay dog.

My ex girlfriend had a shiba. It was pretty chill around people, but would run around like a bat out of hell when walked. If it saw a squirrel or other small animal, it would strain at the leash and yap endlessly.

My theory is that she had socialized the dog around people for most of its life, so it was cool on that front. But she'd spoiled and overpraised it, so it thought it was the boss/alpha in her life. You can't let that happen with dogs. If they think they're in charge, they will walk all over you as it suits them, and they will have no end of behavioral issues.

Isolation is another big no-no. If you don't expose a dog to other dogs and to other humans early on (and steadily, throughout its life), it will get antsy and nervous around strangers. Nine times out of ten, a dog that bites or attacks people does so because it was improperly or inadequately socialized.

I worked at the Pets Hotel in Petsmart this summer. There was a Shiba Inu that stayed there all the time. She was the freaking chillest, most baller dog (maybe not more baller than my own husky) that I've personally ever seen. The Shiba Husky mix should end up weighing around 25-30 pounds (ish).

I have two shibas. They are awesome.

Yeah, I really like Shiba Inus, and was thinking to get one when I have the space and money for a dog, but I've also heard they can be nasty... but I suppose any breed can be, it just depends on the individual dog. Hmm...

How a dog is raised and socialized matters a LOT more than its breed. Endless studies have shown as much.

Yeah, I do know that. My girlfriend even did a paper on that last year in university for one of her classes.

I can tell you in our situation the dog was around people (small kids included) form the time he was old enough to be brought into the family. So from your expert opinion he must have been the 1 out of 10 dog.

Look dude, I never claimed to be an "expert." Sorry you had a bad dog / bad experience; not sure what else to tell you.
