Stuck in USPS hell -- please help.

All of a sudden, starting this week, the USPS has stopped delivering mail and packages to my house. I first noticed when none of my Amazon packages was arriving on schedule. I tracked the packages on Amazon, and for about four of them -- all with USPS listed as the carrier -- the tracking information read as follows: 8/11 - Out for delivery 8/11 - Incorrect address 8/12 - Arrived (back) at facility Etc. This same pattern was appearing in all of my tracking lists for USPS packages only, from various sellers and points of origin (not just Amazon), over the various days this week. Strangely, FedEx and UPS were delivering to my house just fine. I should also mention that I have not changed addresses or moved in any way recently, and that the USPS had no problem delivering to my address at any point before this week. First I called Amazon's customer service. They confirmed that my address on their records was the address at which I reside. They also confirmed that only USPS-handled packages are experiencing this problem. Unfortunately, they claimed it was USPS's issue, that they have no idea what is going on, and that I should take this up with my local post office. Tried calling my local post office. No one answers the phone. Tried calling the toll-free USPS number. After 30 mins on hold, a representative finally takes my call. I explain the situation to her, and she says "I'm sorry, but our systems are down. You need to call us back later." I ask when that will be. "Later," she replies. "Yes," I say, "But do you have an estimate?" "No, sorry." I called back a few hours later. Same hold process. This time around, another representative tells me that the packages were marked in her system as "undeliverable at address." I ask what that means. She tells me to hold on; she will check my records in her system. Finally, she says, "I'm sorry, our system is very slow right now. I can't access anything." She takes down my name and information and tells me that a supervisor will call me back "within the next two business days." Has anyone else been in a predicament like this? Any tips on how to dig myself out of this hell? I have no idea WTF is going on, nor does any party on any side of my transactions seem to be helpful in any way.

Go to your local post office. Don't bother calling. Have you been getting other mail?

best thing is to go to the local post office that services your address.

sory, good luck
if you have credit card statements mailed to you, and if they go back undeliverable, your card(s) will be declined next time you use it. just heads up

No other mail has showed up so far (other than FedEx/UPS/DHL).

Guess I have to get off my ass and go down to the post office. Fucking hell.

Just went down to the post office, and they refused to take responsibility, saying Amazon must have used illegible or incorrect labels when shipping to me.

"Really?" I asked. "Your theory is that four different sellers from four different points of origin all happened, by pure coincidence, to fuck up their shipping labels -- but only when sending USPS, because for some magical reason, they decided to get it right with UPS and FedEx?"

The woman told me there is nothing she can do until the packages are returned to Amazon, and Amazon looks at the labels to verify the shipping addresses with me. At which point, I need to get photocopies of the labels from Amazon and take them back to the post office, no doubt to go through the same song and dance.

Send yourself an empty envelope, just to see if it gets through.

This but obviously at a drop box location or say from your work, otherwise your post-guy might leave it so it may not go through the system.

Do you have a dog? The USPS won't deliver to one of my homes because of a "vicious" 13 year old beagle. I think the postman mistook a lick for a bite.

Update: received a priority mail package from USPS today. Weird. Hoping that whatever glitch in whatever system has been causing my problems is over. We'll see.

do you know your mail carriers personally? it helps a ton. I always get to know my mail carrier/ups/fedex guys by name and face so if there's any problems you can work it out quick.

the only times i've encountered problems is when I have to actually go to a brick and mortar Post Office... thats when you deal with postal workers in the most lame and bureaucratic way.
