or just a marginally bad idea?

Why do it if it's either?

How long after? Post-run, it goes: shower, recovery drink, coffee. Coffee is usually less than an hour after the workout ends.

Not necessarily a bad idea, but why do you want to drink coffee after a workout?

Because like most bad ideas people are interested in, it feels good. If its only marginally disruptive to my workout efforts I think I will continue the practice, but if someone like Why explains that it is sucking a goodly portion of my life force out of me, i'll consider foregoing it.

About 1 hour afterwards. So you are saying not that bad?

When I get home and sink into my chair Im really tired, and thinking over the things I should be doing and the effort required to do them gets me thinking about artificially boosting my energy levels and resolve.

Thanks. I have the body of a female college student so this study speaks to me. I thought it might be having the opposite effect of this studys conclusion.

Thanks Styleforum!!!!!

i drink coffee sometimes before a workout and it gives me a tremendous rush to actually do the best work out.

i mean even doing cardio straight for 45 minutes is no problem on caffein. or lifting as well.

i dont do it often. coffee for me on an empty stomach means acidic

Put it this way:

I drink a cup or so when I wake up, around 4:30 or so. I run from around 5:30 to 6:30. 7:15 I'm in the car and knocking back the coffee again. Overall I'll have 4-6 cups a day, and the only side effect is some irritability when I see the name "Artisan Fan"

okay, that last part was an exaggeration*

* - kind of.

Let me clarify, though. If you sweat a lot during your workout, water is your first priority, and salt, et al, your second. I knock back a little water and then a big carb/protein drink afterwards.

Then the coffee, alterntating with water depending on what I'm in the mood for.

If you're just asking if it will be deleterious to performance gains, then I don't think it really matters and don't see why it would.

I could see it being bad if you exercise late at night, but that's about it.

Interesting, I usually have a large glass of water, a quick breakfast and black cup of coffee before going to the gym first thing in the morning. I found within the past week I have pushed my self harder with my cardio and weightlifting to a point I have to set new goals.

If you do have the cup of coffee be sure to drink lots of water before and after.
