A Shapiro's corn beef on rye sandwich is something I look forward to often. Shapiro's is great! I'm not a big fan of Rathskeller though, but I know it's quite popular.

Anything in particular you don't like about it?

I've been there about a half dozen times but have never found the food to be all that great. I go there with friends who like it but for me it's meh.

+1

I go to the YMCA next door and sometimes meet up w/ friends for food and drinks. The food is just average for downtown.

I grew up in St. Louis and I hate Imo's. I also hate Farraci's. I did like Cecil Whittaker's but mostly because of the 'hanging with friends' memories tied to it - the pizza and salads suck there too. My suggestion without a doubt to the OP is to go to the Central West End in St. Louis. It's my favorite part of the city every time I go back. I've been to the other three cities but I'm sure locals can offer better suggestions.
