This is so frustrating. I've had this pain in my lower back ever since I (likely) dun goofed on my squat posture. Now even soccer is leaving me with such bad pain I can barely sit down.

Anyone with bad back pain like this found a good solution?

I think you should go see a doctor as soon as possible. What if you popped a disc or something?

Saw a doctor and had x-rays a few weeks ago. He said it looked completely fine and that it's a muscular pain.

Foam rolling helps my back when it's really tight from deadlifting.

tore some of my lower back muscle more than a decade ago, but I don't think mine is worse than yours. doctor told me there's not much you can do but wait for the tear to heal and once it does the muscle fibers won't be as flexible as before. did the doctor recommend steroid shots or something to ease the pain? or best thing to do right now is avoid putting unnecessary pressure on your back.

could always try and find something to hang upside down on to let your back relax and naturally stretch out

Muscular pain does not stay for weeks. If you were doing squats after a long hiatus, then it would be DOMs. However, DOMs does not remain for that long.

I suggest you get an MRI. X-rays can't pick up any herniations in the spinal disks.

I did this a couple of years back. Felt it for many many months. Almost a year in fact.

have you given yourself time to recover? (like at least a week?) sports doctors are usually pretty clueless. if soccer makes it hurt that bad ... well maybe you shouldn't be playing right now. need either more recovery or rehab or medical treatment

Yea I probably havent given myself enough time for recovery. I have definitely given at least a week though. Probably 1.5 weeks at a time of just rest w/ no soccer or weight lifting.

I'll go get an MRI then. I have some time to kill so I'll go to a bigger hospital instead of just a sports clinic.

Hard to give yourself a break when you have teammates always saying "just take some ibuprofein and come."

Stuff that seems to make it feel better are hot baths and massages.

Do you think low impact excercise, like jogging or eliptical machines will help?

I have almost no experience with sports injuries of any kind. I did go for a long time (over a month) without weight lifting and went straight to 5x5 squat above my body weight - a pitiful amount comparitively but I'm not as serious a lifter as many.

I took some possibly bad advice by doing good mornings and back extensions to try and strengthen that area, but that may have helped more than it hurt.

Buy a heating pad. (works well with back pain)

^Actually I think icing is a better solution.

Get a tennis ball and use it to massage your lower back and glutes against the wall, like a bear scratching it's back on a tree. As well do a google search on psoas stretches and find one that you can do. Lower back pain seem to be pretty complicated as it's part of a whole chain that works together (or doesn't'). For myself I have actual structural issues with my lower back but pain seems to come from tight psoas and trigger points in my glutes. You may just have to take it easy for a while and feel what works for you. Also getting a sports massage can help but may take a few sessions to work. Good luck.

This is true for the first few days after having a back injury. But after that, you should apply heat instead of ice in that area. ( heat helps to stimulate blood flow in that area.) Edit: However, you could possibly use an ice pack for 20 min then replace it with a heating pad for another 20 min. (Quick Back pain relief method that My Moms chiropractor told her about)
