Moncler V has become a minor obsession of mine and I've picked up a few items in the past month, the Ena 2-in-1 jacket and two (yes, two) Borosiri jackets. I also got a beanie. I went to Moncler NYC and Riccardi in Boston.
The Ide vest is merely ok. It's a bit long in the torso and for $150-200 more you can get the Borosiri. The Mountain Trousers are nothing special and look and feel like Patagonia pants. The Matterhorn boots are too novel to take seriously and fell short with a thorough inspection.
The Borosiri is fairly amazing. This particular size 3 fits me perfectly unlike regular line Moncler where I'm between a 2 and a 3. The jacket sits comfortably at the waist and has a drawstring. The outer fabric is a cotton and polymide blend but feels mostly like cotton. It has a rough and rustic look and the colors are subdued and quiet in navy and green but more vibrant in orange which is why I avoided orange. I was miffed to find a fair amount of feathers coming from around the stitches but it doesn't seem too bad anymore. The single best aspect of this coat is the cotton lining inside. As I work in the NE ski industry I've tried ALL down options from Colombia to CG to everything in between and nothing has come close to the comfort of this coat. I've fallen asleep in it twice already. Seeing as this line won't be re-produced I had to get another one for safe keeping. It's really that good. I actually look forward to wearing it.
The black Ena outer shell has the same fabric as the Borosiri and Ide but with a waterproof inner-lining and taped seams. If its not GoreTex then its something similar. The jacket has a waist cinch and a draw-string. Its a long jacket so it sits pretty low coming right to my rear so I tighten the drawstring and lift it to my waist. The same is done in the modeling pictures on the website. Its a well-cut if unremarkable shell. The inner coat is a basic bluish black down sweater, nothing out of the ordinary. This jacket is certainly not "worth" the $1550+ its going for in the US. I was able to find it for $1,100 with shipping at a shop in Italy so I figured why not. I've never been happy with my rain-coats and this is a modest improvement.
Unfortunately I didn't see any of the half-zips or the henley shirt as they were sold-out. The dress jackets were obviously nice but far too precious for any amount of abuse. If I were to go that route I'd just get some gamme bleu.
