Of course I know TOJ has varsities, but the only one available right now is the suede for $500+. I was looking for the melton wool/leather sleeves kind that's in the $200 range.

Keep an eye on ebay? I've seen vintage centralia/skookum jackets go for very little. Since Victor is outside Amurika, it's doubtful he'll have a lot of local sources. Here, you can probably just ask your local school who makes theirs and get a decent one.

Do you wear yours a lot Shore? Because we got them so late in winter last year I mostly wore warmer jackets. But now fall is coming up and that will be the sweet spot for this jacket.
I am going to wear it a lot. My design still appeals to me, eventhough a darkblue melton wool with bordeaux-brown-reddish leather sleeves and a bordeaux red with gold stripes knit trim would make me go gaga as well.

BTW, as far as the leather on Skookums goes, I am not so much into that leather and consider it more like upholstery leather; on clothes I like a dyed product rather than a spray-finish grain. Their melton is obviously 24-32 oz, their rib trim is the 'swiss knit' all-acrylic; what is the lining? I assume it's acetate or nylon-faced polyfill quilt that adds a good deal of warmth? These can be pretty warm jackets, but they are indeed a bit bulky. The Skookums as a group buy; they were tremendously priced; I think at-cost they were cheaper to make than TOJ varsities and gave a ton back. Those Skookums cost $500 in Japan, so very legit buy there. My local guy is more flexible, faster, and a nice guy, but double-name status with CKM would be nice... if only they would run on my handmade patterns to give them the look, and would use nicer leather...

Dont that good old US Store gap do good varsity jackets? I would have thought they would, and if they did, i would be interested.
But popped in there and they didnt have any.. Probably wrong season, but its coming up to autumn and winter now. But i would like something that looks like these 2.

The leather CKM uses for the sleeves is indeed more like upholstery leather.
A crust type of leather that shows patina early and in a good way would be awesome.
The wool is ok. The cut is not for skinny guys.
I have an athletic build and I like to wear chunky knits so this jacket 'fills up' quite well.
The sleeves are not cut narrow, yet on my arms they are ok.

Does anyone out here own a DeLong varsity? If so what is your advice on sizing? I'm a 48, which should translate into XL for DeLong but I'm worried it might be BIG.

No but i think im still after the varsity and thats moving away a bit from it i think. But i tried this on the other day and thought it looked ok.
