Length of the shirt for the untuckedness :)

So what's the max length for a shirt in a XS/S to be worn untucked? Around 23"-24" inches? Just an off-the-wall question...

I'd say the "max length" would be around 28". 23" for a shirt tail won't look right, but I've never seen one so short.

Depends on your height obviously.

Untucked button downs should not go past the crotch.

If you desire to wear your shirt untucked and you are a size s, I would suggest a body length no longer than 28inch from your collar bone. However the finish of the shirt is equally important, you need a finish that's not recognised as an untucked business shirt. Check out one of my off the peg size s shirts.
28 inch in length, softly fused collar & cuffs. A fabric that flows really well when untucked.

does this look right? my shirt is about 1 inch longer than that and I'm thinking about taking it to a tailor to have it shortened.

if you are on the shorter side, then i would definitely shorten the shirt.
i would wash the shirt first, as there will be a bit of shrinkage. If you plan to put the shirt in the dryer, then you really need to wash it first.

yeah I'm short, only 5.7', so... from what I observed, I think the bottom of the shirt should hit the middle of the jeans back pockets, anything I tried on at the store is longer than that, lol...

Don't be too obsessive about it. Just wear what looks about right to you. Nobody's gonna be out there taking a tape measure to your crotch area, and if they do, weigh your options and respond appropriately.

I'm aware that this is a message board about style and we obsess over these details, but I wouldn't worry about this. I really don't think its necessary to have woven, button-front shirts in different lengths for wearing tucked-in vs. untucked unless they're an extremely casual, square hem or something. I think the examples posted in this thread look too short. Having the longest part of shirt hem go just a little bellow the waist-line looks really weird. What happens when you try to sit down or bend over?

Well, pics are coming later, but for reference... lots of my shirts hit about 1/3 from the bottom of unsagged APC NS back pockets and bottom 1/3 of the fly. One paranoid side of me says it's too long, the other side says who cares...
