Vocal training

Hi,

is here anyone who did any vocal training in the past? I do some public speaking and would like to improve the sound of my voice, which is too high. I'd prefer a more masculine, deeper voice. I'd like to sound more like Sean Connery than Woody Allen. There are some CDs and books on this matter on the web, but I don't know which of them are any good.

When I was in Toastmasters, I really only worked on projection and enunciation, and that was sufficient. I wish my voice was deeper, but I can't lower my register AND reach the back of the room, so my choice was pretty well made for me.

Margaret Thatcher did this. Listen to recordings before/after she became PM, Lear 2nd edit: and to answer your original question: look out for books by Cicely Berry and Patsy Rodenburg. Can get quite technical though, so maybe best to head for group or private lessons if you can afford it. In fact, I'm not that sure I'd want to pick up any book before working with a good vocal coach.
