Hey,

Wanted to start a thread about electronic music. Talk about your favorite DJs or Groups or Projects.

Doesn't matter if it's Trance, DnB, IDM, Psytrance, Progressive, Breaks, Experimental, "beep beep techno ****"...it all has a place here.

Lately I've been listening to some Daft Punk albums I haven't played in a while, as well as the standard Oakenfold, Tiesto, PvD, Chemical Brothers, etc.

I also recently discovered rinôçÃ

rôse and the juan maclean, both of which I really like.

Tunng is also incredible at combining indie/psyfolk/new weird american with the electronic element to make some great tunes.

I rather like Stuart Price, and Jeremy Healey. Also Richard X's collaboration with Deborah Evans Strickland of Flying Lizards fame was quite good.

great thread VM.

i'm a little old school and have no clue what's new in electronica but here's my take.

any discussion of electronica has to have Aphex Twin
Steve Reich might not come to mind but his Music For 18 Musicians should be required listening for all fans of electronica.
Tortoise
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Oval
Mum

oh, i'm sure there are so many others i'm missing from my collection but that's off that top of my head.

Paul van Dyk (especially when you see him in person) is very impressive; DJ GT and Project C (they sometimes work together) are probably the best Vocal Trance DJ’s in the world, IMHO. Also, Armin van Buuren. Personally, I think Paul Oakenfold sucks…I have no clue what people see in him. At the end of the day, I’m a vocal trance type of guy, especially since in my mind it’s really the evolution of 80’s vocal pop.

I like techno. And that's the subgenre, not the generic term used to describe most electronic music. From Richie Hawtin to Jeff Mills to Adam Beyer to Ricardo Villalobos. Also, to nail down some more specifics.. I recently am in to Matthew Dear/Audion, Magda, Loco Dice, and Heartthrob.

I've been listening to electronic music for a long time. I started with trance, like most do, and moved on to house. I always liked techno, and I ended up sticking with it in the end.

Forgot to mention my favorite chill electronic artist - Air. Also, Boards of Canada can fit into this category - for great ambient music to play while having drinks with a girl and talking about whatever.

I always listen to a lot of Autechre, from Cavity Job to their more recent albums. In a quite different field, I really enjoy Yellow Magic Orchestra, especially the first album.
