At 21 you shouldn't give much of a **** about your appearance outside of the narrow goal of getting laid. The level of booze involved in the hookup scene at your age should go a long way in getting women past your braces. They may even aid in snagging a perved-out cougar who has a thing for really young boys... Carve out a little niche for yourself.

Fast forward to 30 where you might be interested in finding a quality woman for the long-term and work in a supervisory role. Braces arent getting you much respect in either case...

Ok, so I found out I have no dental insurance through my parents, and if I did, they don't cover braces for anyone over 19. Since my parents are assholes, their point of view is "If you want them, pay for them yourself." I have zero credit, so how would I go about paying for them?

Really???????

Find a dentist that allows monthly payments (in this economy, a lot will). They'll require some money down. Expect to have 800-1000 cash on hand and then owe the balance (4K or so) and pay over 12 months or something. You don't need to have credit, since you have to go back every few weeks for adjustments, you pretty much have to pay.

Such asshole parents, imagine them trying to force you to live your life as an adult at such a tender young age. However will you survive?

I left out a little bit about why they're assholes. In short, they won't work with me at all. Don't judge me. Trust me.

Yea, I know right? They refused to allow me to get them when I was younger and it would of been covered (and I suppose I'm a bit ignorant in thinking they'd help out now when it's not covered), but now I'm in college, taking out loans to pay for that and working two jobs to pay rent. How dare I expect them to help support me? Man, I must be awful expecting them to do what parents should an support their kid. I may be 21, but I'm still in school. There's a reason medical insurance covers kids up to 24, because while in school it is known they can't support themselves when it comes to medical bills. If they'd have asked me whether or not I was willing to pay the extra $20 a month that dental insurance cost them through their employment before just all out dropping it, I would have gladly taken them up on that.

I got some whitening trays from my dentist that should be good.

So what did you do to cause your parents not to love you anymore?

Delay the braces until after you've graduated and gotten a full-time job. It'll be worth the expense, and you'll be glad you were able to do it on your own.
