The only really three factors I take into account when contemplating bug slaying.

1. If I fail what can it do in retaliation

2. If I fail and I lose it how okay am I knowing that it is out there probably in my room thinking up revenge schemes.

3. If I do kill it how gross will the clean up be and will it shoot out eggs that will hatch revenge.

Luckily where I live there are very few terrifying bugs. I'm pretty good at killing flies and mosquitoes which are about as terrifying as it gets up here.

back in the day I used to have an arowana in our fish tank and it didn't want to eat the small fish and frogs I was feeding it and it had a liking to cockroach so every damn night I have to step out in our garden with a fly swatter and hunt for a couple of cockroaches. I have to use a fly swatter to stun the roach just enough for me to put it in a container without bleeding its gross black and green ooze, and I can't use a bug spray for obvious reasons. my life took a turn for the better when that fish died.

this was when I was still in high school (you can do the math ) the only worms available were some thin worms that eventually mess up the fish tank. the roaches were like a treat to that basterd, fed it everyday till it died trying to escape the tank (woke up one day and found it on the floor)

I try to capture them, but not kill them so I can wrap them in toilet paper, set it on fire and throw them out the window. Occasionally you'll see it get out of the toilet paper, fall through the air and escape before getting burned. I think of it kind of like that stunt houdini did, but more interesting, it gives them some kind of chance. It requires a bit of preparation and time though, but its worth it.

Only bugs we get in the house here with any regularity are ants, house flies and cockroaches.

I use a wet towel and wipe down ant trails, swat flies with newspapers and scream and run from cockroaches.

^so glad i don't have cockroaches.

With spiders I take a long piece of toilet paper and lure them onto it, then drop the paper in the toilet in such a way that the spider is upside-down under the paper. I stare while it struggles like someone trapped under ice in a lake (seriously its freaky how they crawl around upside-down under water) and just as it finds the edge of the paper and gets on top, it succumbs to the wrath of my mighty toilet

If I had known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.
