How do you like these fabrics? I like mid to heavy weight cloth, if any of these are heavy weight, please let me know the number for the material. To my untrained eyes, the white twill does look similar to oxford, is it heavy as oxford?

Hi Laughing man. I don't usually respond, but you look like you need a lot of help.

As someone else said, pick your best fitting shirt, and add and remove measurements as needed.

If you insist on modifying these measurements, it looks like you'd need to:

1. Reduce the cuff
2. Reduce the biceps
3. Reduce the shoulder measurements - each seam should fall about an inch closer to your head than they are now
4. Reduce the chest
5. Reduce the waist by a whole lot

I also prefer my formal shirts with no placket, but you can do as you like.

That shirt's just way too huge, it looks like OTR, and a really bad one at that.

hmm....I searched for Spier and Mackay reviews and it lead me here....anybody have any recent experience with Spier and Mckay to share? and how it compares to Modern Tailor? The white shirt below posted by laughing man doesn't give me any confidence in MT....and also their website is so overwhelming!!

I'd rather keep buying shirts from Banana Republic if this is what a tailored shirt looks like...

The ill-fitting shirt posted upthread is a result of submitting (possibly inaccurate) body measurements, then asking Modern Tailor to guess what measurements are correct for your custom shirt. You will receive far better results if you take an existing shirt that fits you well and tweak it as desired. I am a repeat customer of Modern Tailor and they typically nail my measurements.

However, I think the fabric quality can be hit or miss. I might try out something like CottonWork, where it seems to be easier to find good fabrics.

I'm ready to place my trial shirt order from Modern Tailor based on my new MTM shirt.

Before I order from MT, I want to get your thoughts on the fit of this shirt where my measurement will be based on. I'm new to MTM shirts, and want to know if there is any improvement I can make to the shirt and work that into my MT shirt order.

Also, my measurement were quite precise, so the tolerance of +-2cm on chest, waist and seat will through me off it's tilted to one direction, any suggestions from your past orders?

Thanks.

The pink is k321, blue is k320, white is k328, and the check is u21. I really like the three, but the white seems like a fairly common oxford that I'm a bit disappointed by.

The twill is a medium to medium-heavy weight, I would say. I haven't worn them yet, but to the hand they feel soft. I picked up all of the shirts on sale ($39 for the pink and white, $49 for the blue).

Thanks, I was thinking of buying the exact fabrics, will probably get the blue and pink twill first.

Anyone want to share your favorite fabrics from MT?
How are the MT Collection fabrics?
I was browsing, and like the K3xx fabrics, will though looks can be deceiving.

Thanks.

I would say make the shoulders a fraction narrower, slim the sleeves and raise the armholes a touch.

So far I have just the blue oxford trial shirt and I swear it wrinkles worse than any dress shirt I've ever owned. The sleeves are really bad and it seems wavy throughout the body.

Is this because of cheap fabric on the trial shirt or can I expect something similar with the rest of the shirts?

Mine are fine (I wear two shirts made with the trial fabric), but they may well have changed the blue trial fabric since I got mine. AFAIK pure cotton is always going to wrinkle more than poly/cotton, and from there it's a matter of the fabric weight. I would be inclined to try to view it as a feature rather than a bug smile.gif

I haven't had wrinkling problems with my trial shirt and I bought about two months ago. With that being said, I just bought four more shirts, and I just wore one today. It is barely wrinkled at all, and it is much softer than the trial shirt.
