Greetings,

I just got my first Modern Tailor shirt and would appreciate feedback on the fit.
I ordered the trial black cotton shirt with a two-button Italian collar, darts, and barrel cuffs.
I took measurements from a MTM shirt I had done here in Japan.
Overall, I am reasonably happy, but I am planning on sending the shirt in for alterations
to fix the following problems:

1) The collar is too tight. This is likely because I was going from measurements on a much lower collar.
For those of you thinking of experimenting with a higher collar, be forewarned that you will probably
need to add a cm or so for it to fit. +1cm
2) The sleeves are too short. MT matched my measurements perfectly but my arms are just too long,
and the sleeves ride up when I bend my elbow. +3cm
3) The cuffs are too wide. Again, they matched my measurements fine, but the shirt I took my
measurements from had cuffs that were too tight and I overcompensated. -1cm

For my next shirt I want to work on slimming the sleeves some more and tightening the fit in the chest.
As you can see in the second photo, there is some weird bulging in the back.
If anyone has suggestions on how to tighten up the fit and/or how much shrinkage to expect,
I'd love to hear them.

Cheers,

FWIW, I think black shirts are for waitors only. The collar is also WAY too big, and if you're not a Italian actor from the 70's stay away from the Italian colllar all together. Your shirt also needs to be taken in at the waist. Just my two cents.

Agreed on all points.

Just a note - be very cautious with FedEx. For Canadian customers, and I suspect any outside China, there will be substantial "handling" fees tacked on that you won't know about, that are billed to recipients.

@Christian B: Thanks for the feedback. The collar was a sartorial experiment. I guess I still need to find a good size that hides my absurdly long neck without looking too large. The hint about the waist was especially appreciated. I will look into getting it taken in some.

Try their 2-Button Cut Away, I think it will look rather good on you.

@Christian B: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into that for my next shirt.

Did MT ever sign that partner deal with FedEx?

Underspecified, my momma taught me that if I don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. Nice tie!

E-mail them about this. I have had shirts made by them with no lining in the collar and cuffs. If enough people request this, maybe they will put an option in for it during the ordering process.

Use the money for furniture instead.

And some red plastic cups for variety

Seriously, how does it feel? Is it tight across the chest? If not, I think it looks good.
How about the arm pits?
All in all, I think it looks better than my efforts with MT so far. I've ordered three or four shirts from them and all but one matches the measurements I provided. On one, the sleeves came in too short but not worth it to me to send it back. Also, per a previous post, I had one arrive with a defect in the cloth and they were absolutely great about making it right.
Going to keep working towards dialing in the fit with them though.
