Boardwalk Empire - Page 43

Show's going to be all about Nucky next year. No Eli, No Jimmy, No more interesting foils. Show will end next year with Nucky getting busted.

I understand that, but all episodes were filmed before they knew if they were coming back or not.

I guess you didn't read the interview linked a few posts above. Season 3 should take place in 1923, Nucky Thompson won't be going to jail anytime soon. From the interview it looks like there will be all out mob war (smugglers running out of booze stockpiles). Anyway, I hope they don't attempt to make the show run forever (a la Mad Men). Four seasons is plenty for me.

We should start making predictions on how this show will end.

Nucky - in Jail
Jimmy's Mom - Dead
Richard - Back on his sister's farm
Val Alden - Probably hailed as a hero
Margaret - Marries Owen and moves to New York
Eddie - The new king of AC

The real life Nucky ends up in Jail, but not until 1941... that's a long way to go.

What will happen to Van Alden? I'm going to be very disappointed if he is written off the show. The liking he took to the nanny was kind of sweet.

Nanny > ex-wife. Win!

i personally think Jimmy knew he was about to get whacked, thats why he didnt want Richard to come (didnt want him dead too) and thats why he came unarmed (even if he wanted to kill the butcher with his own hands up close and personal, why not bring a weapon as back up).i also think he knew he would die even earlier, when he reached out to Nucky to make things right.i think he was ashamed and full of guilt of the incest (memory of which was renewed on his visit to Princeton) and of his killing his own father, but most importanty because angela was dead.i think thats why he took that long pensive look at this mother when they were at the Pony rides with his son,he knew he was gonna check out very soon and his son was all she would have.i think he knew Nucky would kill him even though he offered to set things right,a sort of penance..or i could be completely wrong

I'm no expert on WWI militaria, but did he give his dog tags to his kid? What were those medallions on the kids neck?

I just watched the ending again. I think it was really well done.

The whole episode, everyone is complaining about the unbearable heat. Jimmy talks to Richard about the war. As soon as he closes the door behind him, you hear thunder. Jimmy's kid is playing with toy soldiers, and when his grandmother finds that he is wearing Jimmy's dogtags, Richard has tears in his eye.

And the scene of Jimmy in the trench was haunting.

Enough of the bullshit. The real question here is will Jimmy's son follow in dads footsteps and get his winky kissed by grandma? All this other stuff is rather insignificant.

I agree that Jimmy planned for his demise. Like you so eloquently stated, the whole episode was Jimmy trying to orchestrate his death. The tragic thing is that he planned his death much better than his attempt to usurp power of Atlantic City. I am disappointed he was killed but it was a great send-off for a brilliant but emotionally damaged character.
