Paypal froze my account

Thread Starter
A couple of days ago paypal froze my account because they said they saw suspicious activity. I did do many transactions in under a week and receive about $12000 in payments so I assume thats why. I can receive money, but I cannot send it. They have asked for my credit score, receipts of everything I sold, tracking numbers, phone number of the place I bought everything, photographic evidence of the merchandise and all emails between me and the buyers. I provided them with everything several days ago and they still have not released my account, anyone else have experience with this?

Were you taking personal payments?

Does it matter if someone accepts personal payments?

yep - If they see they come in excessively, they send you an email saying that you can no longer accept them, and your account could be in jeopardy if you continue to, etc. etc. Trust me, I know.

you may have inadvertently raised a fraud or money laundering flag in their system. it kind of sounds like taking $12k in payments is very unusual activity for your account, amirite? that's a fraud flag for most cc companies, plus if a lot of those funds were transferred cross-border, that could be a reason to suspect money laundering. i think the evidence they are asking for is a bit extreme, though.

How many personal payments did accept before this happened?

I agree - credit score? Jeez!

Fuji - I see you are based in the UK, but are in NY - maybe thats why they thought something was fishy.

Probably over 100-200. It was my first few months selling on B&S, and then I got stung. Fuckers! Be careful if you do it too. They notice the header in the payment line as "payment for xxxx", shit like that. Now if anyone sends me a personal payment I just insta-refund and ask for it the standard way.

I had a lot of issues with PayPal and am now using gpal. So far so good, but I won't give them a ringing endorsement until I have tested them a little more.

It's pretty-much the same as PayPal and Google Checkout.

Again, I haven't used it enough to recommend it, but have not had any problems with it yet: gpal.net

+1 - I now mainly use google checkout.

I was buying and selling >$1mil a year with paypal back in my ebay heyday...and they just froze me multiple times for no reason...and their answer when I called was, "we can't tell you why or what to do since that's proprietary info"....
They're a terrible business to deal with
Sorry Fuji, but your money may be stuck for 6 months

happened to me. had to submit the info they wanted. took like 3 days to un-limit my account. It was because i logged into paypal from the US and Singapore that flagged the alert.

So in other words if you make good money with your business and use Paypal to get paid, PP is going to attempt to shut down your business.

PP needs to review their business plan.

This sounds great, but how many members does Gpal have? The only advantage to Paypal is that everyone has a paypal account.
What would be a great service is if they let you pay directly to someone's paypal account! So you can use paypal to pay people, but not need a paypal account!
