You don't think installing a lesser used body kit on a ubiquitous car is cheesy? To me that's the highest form of cheesy. You're buying a common car and trying to make it less common - to the point that few would know what car you started with. What's the point? To me a well designed car is like a well designed building. You're buying the package. You might upgrade the brakes, but it's downright worthless to make the car something it's not for purely aesthetic reasons. Do you want a fast nimble car? Get a Lotus Exige. Don't put panels on a Miata and pretend it's an exotic. Car people love the romanticism associated with a car. It might be the racing history or the engineering given the constraints of the time in which it was made. If you put a new body on a generic car, you don't give it any of that character. Besides, what's wrong with a Z4 or a Z4 M? The Z4 M is pretty rare by non-exotic car standards. I know there are many on this forum that would disagree with my thoughts on this.

I completly agree with you on this.

There's too many fun/performance cars to chose from that would even be cheaper than a nice replica/kit.

The M Coupe is rarest (1815 in the NA), but the M Roadster is scarce as well (3042); the coupe seems more rare because the roadster blend in with standard Z4s unless you know what to look for. The same applies to the Z4 coupe, but those are scarce as well. The Z3 coupes are thin on the ground too.

Another good bet for someone nice looking, rare, inexpensive to maintain: Solstice GXP coupe. There are 1,226 (only 12 for 2009). I've yet to see one on the road.

I have the solstice covertible. I wish I would have traded for a coupe when I had the chance. Forget finding one now at a resonable price.

I have only seen one GXP Coupe.

I can tell you that just a little bit of tuning and some sticky tires and the solstice is a really fun car to drive. It's not gonna beat a corvette but I can beat those 350s, 370s boxsters and z cars.

As Ava Gabor (playing Lisa Douglas) once said ... "Why buy a copy when for a few thousand* more you can have the original."

* This comment dates from the 1960s and should be adjusted for inflation.

Low mileage z4m roadsters aren't terribly pricey. Looks like quite a lot of bang for buck.

I'd do it if the quality was there.... I'd love to have a 2000GT, but I doubt that I'd fork out the ~$300,000 for one even if I had that much cash lying around.

I've seen the Solstice Coupe - one very sharp looking car, very cool indeed. Can also rec the Z4M Coupe, which I just bought. It- a beast, though.

I couldn't agree more, I guess this is the reason I can't quite make myself excited about wanting/owning a replica.

Are Morgans expensive?

Seems the new one coming out is going to be 110k. I got to free up some money next year and buy one.

Morgans are expensive but not terribly.

Only reason to get a replica IMO is when these cars start hitting 500k or more.

[quote=jkw;3478327]Not practical, but if it's a second car... I want one as a daily driver but it'll take a while until I'm old enough to insure it... I've spent far too long lusting after these on youtube

Take a COBRA!!!!!
