Ha, that's actually closer to my build (and haircut) today. Even similar glasses, although I ususally wear contacts.

I always liked running over the catcher at home plate.

Lots of things I enjoy doing in sports. I love scoring cheeky goals in soccer - a couple of times I've headed a soft lob over an onrushing keeper in a breakaway/long ball situation. A great dummy pass in soccer is also hard to beat. A down-the-line winner after a well-crafted rally in a tennis match. Back when I used to swim, I always really enjoyed a perfectly executed flip turn, or an awesome relay start. And back when I used to play water polo, there were lots of things that were a real rush - forcing an opponent to take the ball underwater, a good lob shot, a backhand, others. Now I am too fat and out-of-shape to even consider trying to play.

As a life-long lineman in football, nothing beats a nice pancake block.

If you're a real ass you can stand tall next to them as they writhe on the ground and flex in front of them.

Funny you mention that: when I played racquetball and even in my subsequent (brief) forays into tennis I found that my shots got better when I had less time to plan and execute them. Give me time to think and I'll whiff it, but if I have to run for it - it's going deep in the corner and will be unretrievable.

I love blocking shots in basketball. In my prime it was something I excelled at. I also love the switch hands in the air lay-up and the baseline bank shot.

And now, at 33 with a bad back and no longer able to reach down for steals, I love kicking the ball on defense. My feet have maintained their speed, so I can usually get a toe on any bounce pass. It's awesome when you do it four or five times in a game. I had one kid tell me I was cheating.

It's also nice to have a tall player guard me on defense - I'm 6'2, which is tall for a lot of pickup courts, so oftimes the other team's tallest player will guard me. I'll lounge around the perimeter, keeping him out of the paint. He'll eventually get lazy and start sagging. A quick cut to the free-throw line when it's game point, spot-up jumper, and his team sits.

It's the little things.

Hah, I also like knocking down an outside shot (not really my strength, assuming for the sake of argument that I have one, but often just drawing iron will suffice) early in the game and then having the other team yell "shooter" every time I touch the ball.

One of the coolest plays in baseball is to fake a bunt during the pitcher's windup, then pull the bunt back and swing. Saw this at a Mariners game once, the batter almost took the third baseman's head off.

Also, in basketball, throwing an inbound pass off a defender's back.

Cyclocross - on our "home course" (basically our best memory of the previous year's official course in our park) there is a "toilet bowl" type section where you sort of ride in to a corkscrew, turning tighter and tighter and then make a hard 180 and ride out with the turns getting wider. Kind of a fun little element.

Sailing - a good roll tack feels pretty good.

Not saying I admire the man, but he does at least one thing (besides diving) very well, and its a useful tool to have in one's arsenal. If you've got a good horse, ride it!

A little narrative for any tennis junkie who happens to read this: My absolute favorite thing in tennis is hitting a winner, but doing so only after carefully constructing a cat-and-mouse point. Moving your opponent around his side of the court like you own him, but giving him just enough hope as to prevent the point seeming like a game of rushing offense and the complementary brick-walled defense; then, suddenly, he thinks he has you, he thinks that there's a pattern, and he knows that taking that chance will give him another whack at the ball. So he runs to where he has determined you'll place the ball, thinking he has discerned the pattern and outsmarted fate; and as he runs, you know it's too late for him to make even the slightest change in direction, let alone ponder it. And you hit the ball where he once was, where he should be. The smugness, at this point, drowns you. Edit: And a nicely executed topspin forehand. Nothing special, just something that gives you a warm feeling inside.

My favorite was when we had the option of football, weight lifting or volleyball. I'd pick volleyball and get to spend the next few weeks teaching girls on my all girl team how to serve. Of course I wasn't the only guy in the class, there were about 4 of us total, but we were always split up amongst the other teams. I actually ended up making more friends than girl friends, but still, it was lots of fun.

Scoring in foosball with my goalie or defensemen.

Knocking over a full cup during beerpong.

Scoring off the faceoff in dome hockey.

Lying 2 on a par 5 (then 3 putting).

Getting through the first 10 stages of Galaga without dying.

Doing a long pull during a club ride and flicking my elbow for the rider behind to come up.
