Thinning hair or going bald?

While my hair has never been particularly thick, I have noticed my hair thinning a bit more as I get older. Since I usually cut my hair pretty short I guess I've become more conscious of it. I'm 30 years old so it's not as if it's unusual, but what I'm wondering is, is my hair thinning or am I going bald? It doesn't look like I have male pattern baldness but I have noticed my hair looks a little patchy and is thinning towards the middle and back sides of my head. It's basically thinning in an odd pattern:

What exactly is the difference? Balding occurs in many different patterns.

I guess there isn't much of a difference. Although when I see people who are bald they have a significantly larger amount of hair loss than those whose hair is simply receding.

see a doc and ask about propecia.

Your hair may be thinning, which is normal, but your pic is deceptive. You have short hair, and almost anyone with hair that short is going to look like they are thinning when they take a picture like you did. The flash is going to accentuate the skin and make it appear more visible.

Looks like you have a while yet.

You have 5 years remaining so you better get married in a hurry.

Deal with it now so you can save what you've got. Seriously. Far, far easier to prevent/slow further loss than attempt to regrow what's gone.

If its baldness, I can't help you but if it's just regular thin hair, try throwing out processed foods out of the window, take coconut oil and massage your head as much as you can everyday. It helps with blood flow on your scalp so you can grow more hair. I've been eating very clean lately and my stylist told me for the first time in years (I've been with her for 5 years), my hair is stronger, shinier, thicker, volumous and straighter. She doesn't bish around so I think you can try these methods and see if your stylist sees a difference.

Your mom's father's hair pattern is usually a good indication of what yours will be.

Hair loss is much easier and cheaper to prevent than it is to reverse - go to a doctor (preferably one who specializes in hair loss) and get some finasteride

Damn contribute something or don't even bother with responses...

Don' know where you got that from. Why would that be any more the case than your father, or your father's father? I've thinned on top. Been forgetful about getting on to propecia, though i've intended to do it for a couple years. I just never remember to go see a doctor about it during the week. That said, I don't really view it as a permanent solution. It will eventually wear off (maybe not completely) and you'll start thinning again. If you ever stop taking it, you'll end up where you were supposed to be naturally in a hurry. You probably need to decide if you will ever be ok with losing your hair and if taking a pill every day is something you don't mind doing. There are other options as well... Some people are lucky and look good with shaved heads. I would look like a cancer patient. I just don't have the head shape and bone structure for it, so I intend on keeping my hair one way or the other. Regardless, you've got lots of time to deal with yours, especially if you get on propecia asap.
