I need suglasses for sports and activities -bike riding, ATV, hiking, etc. What looks good and works best for you? Which models?

I have a pair of Smith's like the ones below. They are super lightweight which is great for running and they have interchangeable lenses so I can take out the really dark ones and put in something lighter for when I am bicycling. I hate having too dark of sunglasses on when I'm on the bike because if I go from a bright sunny area to a stretch of trail with thick tree cover, it can be pretty dangerous if I cannot see where I am going. I've had my Smiths for nearly three years and the lenses have held up great and don't show a single scratch on them - and they've been dropped multiple times. The only problem I had was I actually snapped one of the lenses nearly in half when switching them out about two months after getting them (because of my own stupidity) and Smith sent me a replacement set of lenses without any questions.

Does Oakley make good glasses or are they more for looks?

For cycling I prefer Rudy Projects to Oakleys. A couple of Oakley Zeros I had started to have the lens coating peel off after less than a year. My Rudys have taken lots more abuse (dropped on the road while riding) and are still in great shape. Oakleys have better styling though.

I used to cycle, a lot, and trusted my eyes to Oakley. I tried Rudy Project, Smith, Wiley-X, ESS, etc... My trusty M-Frames did the job the best. Stuck to my head, great optics, and best of all, were Tacticool for when I went shooting. The rest all seemed to scratch, have a subpar optics, or just didn't fit me right.

In my experience, even Oakley's "fashion" sunglasses - like the Fives or the Gascans or whatever - are still pretty decent as sport sunglasses and don't look too bad, as long as they aren't white with black lenses ()

The sport sunglasses don't look that great, but the water repellent lenses are

I hike, jog, and bike and highly recommend the Oakley Radars
http://www.oakley.com/radar
They were designed for cycling...the earstems bulge out slightly to clear helmet straps.
I've been using them for 2 years now with no problems. They fit great, look great, and are extremely comfortable. Expensive, but well worth it IMO.

Polarized sunglasses from CVS.

They cost $20 and are very lightweight. Great while running and don't fall off.

Half Jackets with different lenses for what you are doing. clear or yellow for mountain biking. Only use yellow on the brightest days, perfect for the fast transitions from wooded parts to trails cutting across fields. Anything too dark will compromise your vision in shady spots which is extremely unsafe. clear for shooting. a dark color or gray/black for when the sun is out in force and you're out in it, like running around suburbia or road biking. unless you're above the tree line you do not need shades for hiking. It's dead weight. Mountain bikers use them to keep debris out of their eyes. Hikers do not have to worry about this. I had smiths, after 4 years the ear arm piece snapped in half on its own. Whatever material it's made of, it's fking weak. Dug out my 8 year old half jackets and started to use them again. Dad has some rudy projects styled similarly to oakley m-frames, they are built like a tank.
