Will an electric shaver solve my neck rash problem??????? - Page 2

My Norelco 8020x works better than any electric shaver I've used in minimizing neck problems while shaving. I have sensitive/thin skin on my neck and have always had problems. Straight razors can work well, but you need them to be sharp. Maybe try injector straight razors. They have replaceable blades.

I'm gonna have to start shaving every day soon, and my brother - who had the same problem growing up - swears that an electric shaver is the answer.

Is he right? If so, would you gents care to recommend a nice electric - say $125-$200 max?

YAWP!

Your issue could be caused by many things but an electric shaver could help. Electric shavers don't shave as close as blades so you won't be as susceptible to ingrown hairs and rashes. Pre treating the beard and post shave moisturizures can help tremendously.

I'd also suggest a skin care regimen using products that compliment your skin and cleaning and moisturizing in the morning and night. This will help your skin's recovery (and skin's health in general) for when you need to shave. I don't even need to use an aftershave as my regular products do the job very well after shaving. No rashes anymore and rare ingrown hairs.

Finally, if you're going to keep using a razor, get a DE.

You may want to "disinfect" your electric razor too. Use rubbing alcohol to kill all the bacteria on it.

Use Tend Skin, or make your own. This stuff works really well. You can also get it at Sephora or Ulta. http://www.amazon.com/Skin-Solution-.../dp/B000A7XVAE http://makeupforlife.net/2006/02/say...-ingrowns.html

Trying this. I just made a solution, shaved and sprayed it on. My face feels good right away and my neck is nowhere near as red as it is usually.

Very cool. Glad to hear it helps.

I had the same problem for years until a friend suggested I start using a preshave oil and ingrown hair cream by the art of shaving. Using a fresh razor and shaving once with the grain helps.

This freaking rocks. My skin is so much less irritated. It works great as a toner too.

Thanks man!

I have been using an electric all my life. I had been using a cheap Remington Triple Foil that you can buy at Walmart for like 60 bucks. This time around I bought a very expensive Panasonic wet/dry razor and I kind of hate it. Hopefully the Tend and Lab Series will make me love it.

I would go with a TRIMMER, I use Wahl from Bed & Bath, fresh blade can't hurt though if you want to stick with shaving

FWIW, gentlemen, the electric razor (wound up with the top of the line 4-blade Panasonic) only made matters worse. A few weeks in and the rashing was atrocious. I found a great product marketed for African American men called Bump Eraser or something to that effect. I've been using that after each shave and the bumpage/rashing has gone down remarkably. I'm bac to using my Mach 3, one gentle swipe in the direction of hair growth on the neck. Cheeks and face are generally fine.

I use Anthony Logistics Ingrown hair treatment from the grooming lounge. It is an aftershave gel and my red bumps and ingrown hairs have completely disappeared after using it for a week.
