Hello everyone!

I was hoping to pick the forum's collective mind regarding Jay Kos tailored clothing. How is the quality, the construction, the material? I recently picked up a navy blazer, but other than it stating on the label, "Made in Italy" there is no indication of who actually manufactured it? Do any of y'all know?

Thanks so much,
BC

He has a number of different suppliers (or has had over the years). The quality is always among Italy's best, bascially top of the line for RTW.

Likely cadidate would be St. Andrews.

I agree
Doesn't he have some clothing made in England as well?

My guess would be Castangia over St. Andrews .

Funny - I spoke with him a couple of years ago and he said that he was annoyed with people coming in trying to guess his makers. Might have been someone we know.

Anyway, I have a couple of shirts from the store and the quality is certainly comparable to the RTW Italians, though the fit's a little more generous (43" chest on a 15" collar).

My experience is that nearly everyone who does private label feels this way, doubly so if they have their own brand and "house style" of design.

blame styleforum. it's the only place where I read people that are more impressed when a prada or Hermes piece is made by belvest rather than liking the label for itself

Here's a little piece on Jay's new shop we did with him for S2E2 of Put This On.

We had that same conversation with him about people coming in and trying to look at labels and guess makers. I think his point his point is a reasonable one: if you spent your time looking at the quality of construction and the aesthetics of the piece, you'd be better served.

Thanks for the video.

Now I know where to buy those clothes that I always wanted (e.g., green reptile skin sportscoat, red cowboy boots, and kelly green fedora).

There's some silly stuff, but there's a lot of beautiful stuff, too. I wouldn't wear python pants, either, but not everything has to be blue or gray.

I had a sport coat from him that was most certainly made by Belvest. Either way he has a lot of cheeky details and bells and whistles that make his garments uniquely Jay Kos, regardless of the maker.
