+1

Plus I live in the Lower East Side, carrying around one of these bags would be a massive self-cock block to all the girls down here.

It's the only bag that can carry all my prestige.

I live in the west village so same deal..i think there is only about a 15 block radius on the upper east side where these bags wouldnt destroy your chances with the vast majority of girls.

I disagree. It's a canvas bag, if it has a bank's logo on it's a real banker bag, if it doesn't it's a canvas bag. The J. Press bag is obviously not a fake banker bag, it's a J. Press canvas bag.

For some reason, my favorite swag is from Lehman Brothers... I still like to rock their gaudy 150th Anniversary polo shirt. Also in the same vein, I still keep old pitch books and annual reports from Enron and AIG. I am the Andy Bernard of swag.

You two are delusional. You underestimate the gold-digger in the average woman in Manhattan. Whether she's an free-spirit artist in the West Village or a hipster in the LES, she'll see the dollar signs just fine and will jump at the chance to bag (pun intended) a rich guy who works in finance. But perhaps I overestimate the suaveness of the average guy working in finance in Manhattan.

This thread is sad and pathetic, which includes both sides of the argument of the "banker bag".

If you have a free bag and no other alternative, by all means use the damn bag. If you feel you'd rather not use a free piece of banking swag as a status symbol, then by all means get a replacement, whether cheap or expensive.

Who gives a crap, really.

Then wouldn't the key be to carry it with an air that suggests the possibility -- without definitively committing to the notion -- that you're carrying it ironically?

Fair enough, I just feel this board is better suited (hah!) to discussing other topics rather than the possible reasons why bankers use their banker bags rather than buying a more "SF" approved bag. Just seems a bit too much, but then again this is SF....

Just take a Sharpie and write "****" in front of the logo.
