Seiko 5's with leather straps or alternatives - Page 2

I have a Seiko 5 and love it. I pair it up with the JCrew cloth/cotton watch bands and I get tons of compliments on it. Combined with the fact that I picked it up on sale for $55 online and its hard to beat.

Looks like Kaplan has covered it, thanks Kaplan.
ManOfKent, yes compare how the leather band attaches to the watch in the photos Kaplan posted,
then compare how the photo I posted is of a different design that wont allow for a typical leather band. It's just something to keep an eye out for. Great and reliable watches the 5's are.
There seems to be no shortage of them on the at very reasonable prices

Thanks for the help guys.

The Sprints look lovely, and are probably worth 3 times the price of the 5's but are beyond budget at the moment.

Three I've found that I like:

SNXA07:

SNK135:

SNKE61K1:

To my eyes they look like they'd probably take a standard leather strap, but I'd be grateful for others thoughts. Cheers.

Of the black faced Seiko 5's posted so far, I personally prefer the look of this one:

(Reposting for easier comparing with the ones above.)

Sorry, I don't know anything about it's availability.

Thanks guys. I'm tempted by numerals (Arabic or Roman) atleast at 12 and 6 o'clock.

Love those straps - where did you get them? I currently have an 18mm strap on my 5, but it's a bit too small.

MoK, keep in mind that a lot of Seiko 5s have a lug width of 19mm which might make it harder to find replacement straps... This is the case with my SNX121 pictured above with a 20mm navy RAF strap. Iirc, the nice tan leather strap AlanC has on his is a Hadley Roma.

The black Flieger dial watch has an 18mm lug width.

How about the SNX123K?

Black dial version of the SNX121. Looks like the SNK135 you posted, but crown is at 3:00 instead of 4:00. Btw, I've bought from the 2 ebay sellers I've linked and recommend them both.

Thanks for those. Oddly the SNX123K (which looks great) doesn't seem to be available to UK buyers.

The 799 is a strong contender though:

Would you wear a black face watch with a suit? It was my understanding that (to those who care about such things) lighter faces, smaller sizes (to a point), thinness, and simplicity of design are all qualities that make a watch more formal.

I would for less formal business meetings, in the same way, I'll wear derby's or brogued oxfords with a suit on such occasions. For more formal meetings I'd wear a light faced watch (currently it's a very plain Swiss quartz) and cap oxfords.

Thanks for everyone's help/advice.

I've just ordered the SKN381:

I'll replace the stap with a plain black leather one. I'm already looking at simpler white/silver faced ones to put on a brown leather strap, and will no doubt get a blue faced one as well. This could be the start of an obsession...

I dropped my 5 and now the automatic movement is loose- it jumps out of place, but anyways check this out: Taken from here: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f21/sei...tml#post804094

can i piggyback onto this thread? I'm also looking for a Seiko 5 (or possibly a Spirit) that would work with a leather strap, but I'm looking for a white face. Any suggestions welcome.

Also, can people recommend a trustworthy on-line source for Seiko? Thanks.
