The blurb about it -

The Longines watch that the members of the ExpÃ
00a9.png
ditions Polaires Françaises - Missions Paul-Emile Victor wore was a stainless steel wristwatch with a centre seconds.

A centrally mounted second hand was still quite rare in the 1940s but apparently met the need for easy reading, as illustrated by the use of luminescent coating on the hour symbols, the numerals and the hands.

A point of interest is that the Longines 12.68N calibre used in this model had an anti-shock device that was different from the standard feature in other Longines watches.

Longines has decided to re-issue the timepiece that accompanied the scientists who took part in the ExpÃ
00a9.png
ditions Polaires Françaises - Missions Paul-Emile Victor as a tribute to these expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica to explore the remotest corners of our planet.
The Longines ExpÃ
00a9.png
ditions Polaires Françaises - Missions Paul-Emile Victor watch is an accurate reproduction of the instrument used at the time by the geologists, geodesists, meteorologists, physicists, biologists, geographers, glaciologists and film-makers that joined the expedition.

Fitted with a self-winding mechanical movement, this model has a date aperture at 3 o'clock and a silvered dial with hour symbols and Arabic numerals, as well as hands coated in Super-LumiNova.
It is available on a strap in either genuine brown alligator skin or black leather.
Self-winding mechanical movement, calibre L619 (ETA 2892/A2)
Power-reserve: 42 hours

Case: Circular, steel, Ø 38.50 mm

Go for it! That is the very watch I was looking at a few weeks back (I'm down to Longines and Oris for my choice at the moment). Very classy, in an understated way.

I like a lot and they don't break the bank too badly either.

Looks great.

I wonder how accurate it is?

Very nice! This Flagship re-issue is another favorite in the current Longines line.

It's a nice-looking watch, but I can't get past the Longines logo. Anything with wings just doesn't work for me.

Not particularly. I like the Conquest that Twotone posted very much though.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

I am looking for an everyday watch that is dressy enough to wear with a suit, for work. I had my eye on the Omega Aqua Terra with blue hands and markers buy sadly (as some of you will know) that particular watch has been discontinued by Omega. As an aside, I recently saw it offered for sale on www.watchesonnet.com and placed an order. I have now been informed that the watch is not in stock and they will have to order from the manufacturer - which won't be possible. I am hoping for a speedy refund. Fingers crossed.

Getting back to the Longines, I stumbled on this watch by accident. I was looking at watches in the Heritage and Masters lines and found it. What I particularly like about it is the silver dial, the blue hands, and the size (38.5 mm). I have small wrists (6.5") so this watch should work fine for me. I had considered the Stowa Marine, but I think that is probably too big for me.

I like the other Longines posted above but I would regard that as a dress watch only.

Thanks again for your help. I would welcome any further thoughts.

No idea David, I am no expert! It has an ETA movement so should be quite good, I presume.
