I'm looking to buy a decent briefcase or messanger bag for work. It seems to be damn near impossible to find any decent stores where I live that sell anything worthwhile, so I figure online is my best bet.

I'm willing to spend up to €300 on something.

I currently have my eye on these two models from custom hide (both in the brown).

I prefer the look of the first one, but the second seems a bit roomier (although this might just be an illusion, they are both apparently 4'' wide). It's not a huge issue though; all I'll be carrying will be a paperback book and some light paperwork.

I'm open to any other suggestions, but €300 is really my upper limit; I can't afford any more than that.

Although I do not have either of those particular items, I do have some leather goods from custom hide and have been very satisfied with the quality. I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever you choose.

Out of curiousity, how long have you had it?

Make sure to get the special buckles! That way you don't have to open and close the straps everytime.

Are you planning a trip to Bangkok? You can get semi -bespoke bags for much less than that. It entails changing the leather & color around certain standard designs . Just make sure you obtain a certificate if you have something done in exotic leather . Don't expect the fine finish one gets of a Goyard !!

I have one of their army laptop briefcases. Very good bags, although a bit on the heavy side. Sometimes I feel like I'm carrying a saddle around.

I was also looking for a bag a few months ago and ended up choosing the Custom Hide Scholar in whiskey:

I was pleased with the bag, but it took a long time to come. They told me that their head of production died, and as a result my bag took over three months to arrive. I've had it for about a month now and will try to snap a few photos tomorrow and post them to this thread.

Their head of production died? That's terrible, when was this? My old scholar was stolen and I need to order a replacement, but I hope it won't take 3 months!

I'm currently waiting for the Classic Briefcase in Whiskey. It's been a little over 3 months and it does seem they've had a death on the production team. Trying to be patient, but school has started and I can't wait to break out what by all accounts is an awesome bag!

I've had a large scholar for about a year and it's held up very well - it is massive though!
