don't think it's ironic as those jeans aren't farmer jeans, they're douchebag jeans

saw these in store yesterday. they're not selvedge but the material seemed slightly thicker than regular levis. the washes are boring as shit though. definitely old man jeans.

If you want to be technical, it's "self-finished edge" where the word comes from. I don't know who got lazy along the way and stopped using "self-edge", but "selvage" looks too much like "salvage" to me. I'm guessing it comes from saying it really fast. But yeah, it is used more often than "self-edge."

Unless I really am missing some information.

lol bro's an idiot but hes right,

selvedge = selvage = self-edge

So the 501's notoriously shrink 2-3 inches in the inseam. But what about the made in USA Brooks 514 model? Do the 514s shrink 2-3 inches in the inseam as well? The reason I ask is I tried on both the made in USA 501s and 514s at Brooks during their recent sale. The 501 inseam was 2 or 3 inches longer than the same printed size in a 514. So do the 514s not shrink to the same extent at the 501s? Different construction and or material between these to models? Do the 514s in dark denim (unwashed) fit true to size off the shelf and not shrink upon washing? Just trying to determine what size to get in the 514s. Thanks!
