That was better than what ET showed.

^ Seriously. And I like Blake Lively as much as the next guy but her acting sucks ass.

This.

Granted, I'm not a comic book guy and I'm vaguely familiar with the GL universe, but the trailer had me

After viewing the trailer, going to have to agree with you all.... :meh:

Guess gotta wait until 2012 for Dark Knight Rises for a good superhero flick.

At any rate, I will check out the GL film. I'm one of the few who has always preferred DC to Marvel, though I read both. Comic book movies tend to be so uneven in quality that I try not to prejudge them.

EDIT: Oh and A History of Violence is up there as well and I just realized how old the post was I responded to and I have had more than enough to drink.

most of those movies don't really count when you talk about true "comic book movies" -- what most people would consider "comic book movies." besides TDK is better than most of those movies anyway.

I think Capt. America and Thor will at least be pretty entertaining. So far, Marvel Studios hasn't failed to deliver an entertaining movie. The worst is The Incredible Hulk (the most recent reboot) and that was decent and much better than the first.

I'm a regular comic reader and love GL. Not sure how I feel about that trailer. It showed some good signs after he got the ring and I'm happy with the overall look of the universe they have shown so far. The music got me a little jazzed too when seeing the glimpses of the Corps. Having said that, I can already tell that Hal is written wrong. He's being played with a little too much humor, the real Hal is cocky and generally fearless. The way they are writing Hal is almost a weird mix of his character and Kyle. Also wish they had spent more time in the trailer showing off the Corps, but that could have been due to a lack of finished CGI. So yeah, I don't know. Trailer didn't give me the geekbumps like the ones for TDK, Iron Man and even Star Trek did. Also reinforces my belief that Ryan Reynolds is all wrong for Hal. Not enough to prevent me from giving it a chance, but I am not as optimistic as I was.

Excuse me for a minute while I scratch my eyes out.

That's being a little dramatic. It did have some good moments and all my complaints from above, aside it does have potential. EDIT: Better quality versions here: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/greenlantern/

I'm being overwrought but it still looks like shit.

Reynold would have been a better Rayner than Hal, actually, he would make a good Wally West as well. He is also the perfect Deadpool but I agree, he was chosen as Hal more for his looks. Being a comic book fan himself, he should have known better when they gave him those corny lines.

Even though the movie looks like it won't be that good and I still hate that damn power source, oh and the suit looks horrible in the high quality trailer (hopefully they fix it up a bit more), in the end, the movie is still a must see for me. The comic book geek in me still wants to see the Corps, Kilowog in full form, how Sinestro turns evil, etc... So I will be there, most likely, on the midnight showing.

And Lively just needs to just show her boobs, seriously. She had 1 line in that trailer and it was horrible. She's the eye candy in this movie, so hopefully they show something like Fox in Transformers.

Fanmade, but I thought this had a very "superman returns" kind of feel to it

He would KILL as Deadpool. Perfect deadpan humor for that role and he's built for it as well. He looks nothing like a fighter pilot and Hal Jordan was never very snarky in the comics. You're right, he'd make a better Raynor, but he's all wrong for Hal Jordan. I'll be seeing the movie on opening night, still, and will be drinking heavily afterward as I ruminate over hollywood ruining my favorite comic of all time. Can't wait for the sequel! I don't know if anybody caught it but he used the ring's powers without being suited up during the fight scene. Never seen that happen before.
