Fly fishing - Page 34
Thanks for posting that Lefty. I have a pair of his Meindl boots. While I also have a pair of gore-tex gaiters I seldom wear them and wear brush pants instead. Obviously not deer hunting here but ruff grouse hunting instead.
NY State had more deer per square mile than any other State in the country in the 70's until the early 80's. I took this buck in Chemung County in the mid 80's and he made the record book.
I used to travel across the county hunting deer (mainly archery), elk and mulies. But now only hunt birds over the dog. Pope and Young headquarters is only 30 miles from me due in large part to the number of record bucks in this area. While I still mentor a few people in deer hunting including my youngest son I'd rather be out watching the dog work. Been more than 10 years since I have harvested a deer.
Most upland hunters that I know also fly fish and archery hunt deer. Lefty I could see you eventually hunting birds over a dog in addition to fly fishing. Time to get on the road, heading out fly fishing on a stream to the South of here. Last fall I posted a picture of 3 straight days of trout limits and you said it was shocking to see after C&R. I was one of the early ones that jumped on C&R. Now the biologist, TU and DNR are trying to get people here to start taking smaller trout out to make room for some to grow larger. But very few people do so the 10+ pounders are hard to come by. I'll see what I can do today
Probably don't need another hobby, but I think bird hunting is my future. I didn't grow up in a hunting culture so there's a learning process. Fired my first shotgun last month.
I'm all for sensible taking of trout. I thinking stocking potentially does more damage to wild fish than harvesting.
